That's what my wife needs - a structured system that tells her how it is. We'll be watching TV and out of nowhere she'll say she needs something sweet and it bugs the heck out of her! Then I get a milkshake craving and we both cave.

im really trying to get in better shape, my biggest obstacle is motivation, i pay for a gym membership, but ill get myself to go three or four times in a week, then ill skip a day the next week and it throws my routine off and i just quit again, i really need to try and keep motivated, im not in terrible shape (6' even, 205 lbs), but i can tell that my endurance isnt what it used to be, and i dont want to get into a rut where my health keeps going the other way either, anybody have any good motivational tricks to get my butt up off the couch and get to the gym? i really think it would be easier if i had the equipment at home, i had an apartment where the fitness center was in the basement, and i just had to walk down there, and i was in great shape, working out 5 days a week, it felt awesome, i really want to get back to that

But yeah, a structured system is what it's all about, especially in the beginning. If being accountable of one's food intake is not something that is familiar to a person (which is very common and the way I was until I was about 18), then they need something to help them be conscious of what they're putting into their body. Over time, said person will not need the assistance any longer, but programs like Weight Watchers (or anything like that) are a great way to start because they have charts and schedules and such. Like another forum buddy said earlier, though: you also need to consider that this is not a "diet" per se; this is a lifestyle change that needs to place if you want to see long-lasting results. Also, for the record, I kind of have a beef (no pun intended) with some of these diets/programs that say carbs are bad. I can talk a blu ![]() |

Calculate your BMI.
http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ BMI Categories: Underweight = <18.5 Normal weight = 18.5-24.9 Overweight = 25-29.9 Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater I'm 33.2. I'm considered obese. ![]() My weight goal is 220. Once there, my BMI will be 29.8, under obese. That's 25 lbs. that need to be lost. Last edited by JamesKurtovich; 03-24-2009 at 07:27 PM. |

Be careful with those BMI calculators, though. There are factors that can't be weighed into the equation of a simple calculator like that. Most notably: people with larger bone structures (thick wrists, big hands and feet, big head, etc) are just going to naturally weigh more. |

According to this, I need to lose 40 lbs to get down to "normal".... sheesh.
I don't go by these things. I have legs like tree trunks (thanks to many years of soccer and baseball). My goal is to lose 20 lbs, and I'll be plenty happy with that! ![]() |

![]() Yesterday I had 3 eggs and a chopped up hotdog for breakfast with a glass of water. For lunch, I had a salad (spinach leafs, dry, red peppers and tomatoes), rice, and baked chicken with bacon. For dinner I had 2 sandwiches with onions and avocadoes with a slice of swiss cheese. Tomato soup with some pasta. And a glass of water. At work I consumed a half gallon of water. This'll be my goal from my on - aiming for 1 gallon throughout the whole day (including meal beverages and workout drinks). I had 8 oz. of a whey protein drink after I got home from the gym. For my workout, I "stationary biked" for a little over 8 miles in 30 minutes. I did 3 sets of seated dips and 1 set of assisted dips. I did some curling but my forearms felt like they were going to fall off! But I could definitely tell I remained hydrated throughout the entire workout... made a huge difference. I wasn't so desperate to get to the water fountain. This morning my weight scale told me 240, but the one at the gym is usually 5 more for some reason. So I'm still at 245. ![]() |

The one thing I did to go from 185lbs to 140lbs was quit the fast food junk,
especially the morning things like breakfast on a bun. Took me about 2-3 months. I never quit the beer, did not seem to matter much to my body, |

I live in the boonies in Alaska, we don't have fast food save for our local deli that fries their food. Although we still have the "microwaveables" in our stores - which is bad or worse than fast food. I was eating a lot of that for lunch before getting back on the routine along with twinkies, soda, and whatever else I could get that'd stimulate my taste buds.

Just by limiting my calorie intake to 1700-2200 everyday and no exercise, I have lost 65 pounds in 3 years. I am 6' and was 240. Now I am 175. I mean, there are days where it's like "Ok, Brazilian Barbeque.... Screw the plan", But for the most part I keep with it. Every couple weeks I lose a poundish. My goal is to get back to my wrestling weight in high school, which was 171. So close.
