Default Billy Wilder on Blu-ray

This thread is dedicated to the great Billy Wilder. Here's a list of every film available in North America.

Wilder's short Death Mills is included on Kino's The Stranger as an SD extra. It's not in this list because it's not in hd.

Nice thread, Shell. I discovered Billy Wilder only after I got into Blu-ray and he has become one of my top 5 favorite directors. I have enjoyed ever film I have seen so far from him. His talent was indeed impressive, to have directed so many revered classics across multiple genres.

Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard are masterpieces of film noir, two films that defined the type. I am looking forward to my copy of Ace in the Hole to arrive tomorrow.

I recommend Cameron Crowe's Conversations with Wilder. Excellent read.

Some Like it Hot is my favorite Wilder comedy (It's where my SN comes from!). Ace in the Hole is my favorite drama. I love how devoid of sentiment it is.

Since I've delved into more of his works by way of Blu-ray, I've decided that Billy Wilder is my second favorite director of all time, behind Alfred Hitchcock.

Double Indemnity is my clear favorite, but all of his films in my collection are five-star releases.

Good idea for a thread! I would include non-USA releases and just indicate if it's region free or locked like I did with my Hitchcock thread. I think many of us have region free players.

Same here. I hadn't seen a Billy Wilder movie until I got into Blu-ray. I own several of his now and look forward to more.

Some Like It Hot would be my favorite out of the ones I've seen so far. It deserves it's status as one of the best comedies of all time.

The only one I haven't liked so far was Sunset Boulevard. I'm not knocking the film, and I understand why it's so beloved, but it didn't completely work for me for some reason. I was shocked, but it happens.

Check this link, just change your setting from US to Globe at the top in the search box. Looks like Witness for the Prosecution is already out region-free in Australia, can't tell if A Foreign Affair (German), The Front Page (German) or Avanti (French) are region-free. Fedora and The Lost Weekend are apparently locked.

What he said. There's several out there. I usually assume it's locked until I hear differently.

Fedora from Carlotta is locked; was about to import to complete my Wilder collection and learned it has non-removable subtitles; hoping Olive gets on with their announced release.
