Same here. I had it recorded off HBO onto a VHS tape for years and then it finally become unwatchable. Then in about 2003 I found a good VHS copy at a Hollywood Video for $2 and kept it until about 2007. At that point I decided to wait for the proper HD version and now I am glad I did.

I've seen the new transfer, and whilst I was quite concerned that the title wasn't going to get the love that it deserved - I'm happy to say it has.

If anyone has seen the new transfer for Dick Tracy, they'll know what to expect here. A very stable image, with gentle colour correction (like Tracy it accentuates the golden hue just a tad), completely bereft of film artefacts (which plagued the DVD release if memory serves), and a generally sharp and detailed image. Shots with animation exhibit a very slight drop in sharpness due to generational loss, but this is completely unavoidable. Shots without look simply amazing, like a film shot yesterday. So crisp.

The opening toon town animation has a kinda grainy look, but it's always been this way. This is a really pleasing restoration that breaths new life into the film. I'm guessing it was completed in the 4K domain.

I'm a very, very happy Roger Rabbit fan today!

Checked FS and BBY in Canada and its up for preorder for 17 bucks, that's actually cheap.

Exhibit A: Jurassic Park
Exhibit B: Back To The Future
Exhibit C: GoldenEye

Even popular films don't necessarily get great new Blu-ray transfers!

Well, let's just say that the transfer for Roger Rabbit is significantly better than any of the Back To The Future transfers...

Detail-wise, those screenshots look good, but the colors seem to be more like a 60s cartoon rather than one from the late 80s.

Screencaps does not mean anything until you see it with your own eyes in person

Question Has the Rabbit been restored?

Interestingly, the book (I have an autographed copy) was called "Who Censored Roger Rabbit". I understand that the film was edited when it went to dvd. Does anyone know if the cuts have been restored on the blueray version?

About 90 percent of this movie must be optical shots (and multi-layered ones at that), so it's never going to compare to a feature that is pure animation or live-action.
