Picked up WOMAN IN THE MOON on MOC for pretty cheap, but I think I'll opt for the KINO on SPIES because I'm very interested to see the original trailer. I'm a trailer collector and silent film trailers are usually pretty wild, besides being ultra rare.

Great idea OP! Thanks for this thread, and the international overview of releases.
I even got the UK Metropolis 'gold bar' version, but sadly did not win, even though I don't have a region free player (yet). (trying to control my steelbook obsessions, must keep my fist down...........)

Fritz Lang's Destiny (1921) has officially been announced by Kino

Quote:
Kino Lorber will release on Blu-ray dierctor Fritz Lang's film Destiny (1921), starring Lil Dagover, Walter Janssen, and Bernhard Goetzke. The release will be available for purchase on August 30.

A dizzying blend of German Romanticism, Orientalism, and Expressionism, Fritz Lang's Destiny (Der made Tod) marked a bold step for Lang, away from the conventional melodrama and into the kind of high-concept filmmaking that would culminate in such über-stylized works as Die Nibelungen and Metropolis. DESTINY is a visually ambitious, cinematic allegory in which a young woman (Lil Dagover) confronts the personification of Death (Bernhard Goetzke), in an effort to save the life of her fiancé (Walter Janssen). She is transported to a Gothic cathedral, where lives are represented as burning candles of varying length. Death weaves three romantic tragedies, and offers to unite the girl with her lover, if she can prevent the death of the lovers in at least one of the episodes. Thus begin three exotic scenarios of ill-fated love, in which the woman must somehow reverse the course of destiny: Persia, Quattrocento Venice, and a fancifully-rendered ancient China.

Restored by Anke Wilkening on behalf of the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Murnau-Stiftung, this definitive presentation of Destiny preserves the original German intertitles and simulates the historic color tinting and toning of its initial release.

Accompanying the film is a newly-composed score by Cornelius Schwehr as a commissioned composition by ZDF / ARTE performed by the 70-member Berlin Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductor Frank Strobel.

Special Features:

German Intertitles with Optional English Subtitles
Audio Commentary by film historian Tim Lucas
2016 Re-release trailer
Comparison of B&W / Color Footage

The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Metropolis are the most gorgeous looking Silent Films on Blu-ray, stunning quality. Nibelungen is amazing too and Nosferatu.

Can't wait for Fritz Lang's Der müde Tod on Blu-ray, I saw it live with the original orchestra in Berlin at the official 2k restoration premiere.

I think I prefer the Masters of Cinema version of Die Nibelungen to the Kino (which seems a bit too tinted in green), at least in comparison. It is a great movie though, from noble soldiers like Siegfried and Hagen, to the king who starts off wishy-washy but become in times of crisis a noble leader as well. For those who might argue whether Hagen is noble or not, keep in mind that he is a simply a soldier following orders. And the will of king is all. Then there's the innocent Kriemhild, who after the death of her husband, turns evil and murders her own child to achieve her revenge. There's the bitter Brunhild, the noble Volker, Klein-Rogge as Attila, and George John in multiple parts (and disguises). Poor Mime, now that's a bad hair day. Great film. This is my favorite and in my opinion the greatest of Lang's films.

So I just finished watching Destiny on blu ray, looks very good. It's been many years since I watched the dvd version though so really can't compare the two. The blu ray does still did need some damage clean up at least in one scene (in the house fire where you see a very prominent vertical line at a key moment with Death). The musical soundtrack is awesome!

I've also starting watching The Gambler on blu-ray, and wow the soundtrack which for some bizarre reason features a prominent xylophone is pretty brutal to listen to. Xylophone of all things! This isn't a freaking Bugs Bunny cartoon!

It will be interesting to see if there are any variations in the picture if Destiny comes out on MOC.

Of course one of the great thing about watching the Lang classics is seeing all of his stock players in different roles across the movies
