Default Tears Of The Sun - Bruce At His Best?

Just watched Tears Of The Sun on Blu-ray.

What a brilliant experience I had.

Great PQ and SQ. My receiver only has the ability to play back the DD 5.1 track, but with the volume way up it sounded awesome (what would the PCM track sound like?) especially the last 30 minutes of the movie.

This is a very under rated movie IMO, which is up there with the best BD's that I have seen.

The lush jungle foliage was a treat for the eye, much like Apocalypto

Looking forward to Die Hard 4.0. Bruce Willis rocks!

It has an excellent transfer for sure and a very good film IMO.

Respectfully, I disagree. I was expecting more of an action flick and I don't know about the BD version but the enemy soldiers at the end looked computer generated.

Can't say I noticed the computer generation, but, hey, thanks for your opinion

No problem, I might have enjoyed it more if it wasn't promoted (in the US anyway)as a Blackhawk Down type of film.

Might have kept a more open mind. Probably will check it out again to be sure, sometimes I like films better after another viewing.

Have to say it did not come across like CGi to me. Maybe I should have a look at that segment again.

I'm not saying that they all were but in some shots they looked artificial but I could be wrong.

Maybe when they brought in "SPOILERS"

the bombers at the end. But it was certainly not that noticable to me.

I thought the clarity and attention to detail in the transfer process was some of the best Blu-ray had offered up to that point. The PCM sound was truly amazing and the visuals were stunning throughout the whole movie.

Even the blacks looked incredible, especially during the night scenes. My Sony XBR 4 handled color with relative ease. Now if we can get some Deep Color source material, we could really show off our Blu players and Hdtv's.

Great to see that you and I are on the same wavelength.

I was half expecting to be shot down on this, as everyone has a differing opinion on movies. So at the moment I am pleasantly surprised with the replies so far. But there is still time to have to dodge a few bullets.

PQ and AQ wise I'd agree this one is top shelf material. As for the movie itself, I'd expect to see it at the bottom of a $1.99 sale bin at Walmart 10 years from now.

The movie had the potential to be great. Solid cast, minus Isaiah. Washington's character, and the lead female who I can't remember her name, is definitely easy on the eyes.

However as someone already mentioned it was advertised as an action movie, turned out to be primarily a drama with an intended message to the audience, but IMO it failed at both. My main problem with this picture was character development or should I say the lack of it. I've got no problem with a movie cleverly adverstised as an action movie, but in this case if I want a movie that provides both, I'll spend my money on Children of Men or Blood Diamond, two movies that use the same formula as Tears of the Sun (drama/action), but better movies when compared to Tears of the Sun.

It's a fantastic film and the Blu-Ray made one big mistake in my opinion... they didn't release the Director's cut! Dumb.

The Director's Cut would have been the icing on the cake for me

This was way better than I thought it would be both movie wise and pq/aq wise. If taken as a straight up good vs. evil escape movie, its pretty good. I can recommend a rental on this one but not a blind buy (unless it was $9.99 or so). PQ and AQ are both excellent. Also, it's always a pleasure to see Ms. Bellucci on screen

The last 30 minutes of the BD was a treat for the ears. Bullets were flying all around my house. Starting with the F-18 Hornets launching from the carrier and lighting up the target area, my house was shaking.

I don't understand the disappointments about the story-line. That kind of horrific genocide/mass murdering is really going on. How can a movie that sheds some light on a MAJOR issue that the world ignores be a bad movie? IMHO, never!

the answer to that is simple.
action movies are mindless ,you dont have think about the world around you.
an escape as they say.
i myself like movies like tears of the sun.
for actors and directors movies are an art form.
art is a reflection of life,or it suppose to be.
in a industry that spits out movies like a production line in a factory, once in a while one or two slip past like tears of the sun.
im sure bruce willis had some pull because his production company was involved.
there are movies that stick with you as life goes by,this movie does that.

Default Personal Opinion

Bruce is a great actor, and this is hard to compare with Live Free or Die Hard. Though, I did see alot of his acting in this movie was pretty straight foward, but yet, aggressive. He made a convincing Navy SEAL, and to put it to you in the best of words, well, he looked like he could kill a mofo, and he did, oh yes, he did.
