Unhappy PowerDVD 8 Oversized Blu-ray/HD-DVD problems

Hello

I've got some serious trouble to get blu-ray and HD-DVD to play correctly on my computer. I'm using a Dell XPS710 with a GTX 8800. Every high def files, mkv:s etc work just fine but when I try to play blu-ray or hd-dvd discs the size goes craaazy. The picture is totaly oversiezd and there is no way to shrink it

Anyone know what to do? Seriously wanna watch some bluray

It looks like this when playing high def discs:

These are taken of the computer screen but the problem remains when it's played on the 47" 1080p tv. It's a dvi-hdmi connection.

Do you have it in dual-monitor mode? Only one of the screens should be active at a time when you are trying to play a Blu-ray.

When you have the TV set up on your computer, what resolution does it have in the display properties?

+1 you're right on track with this one - he probrably has his secondary monitor set at a resolution other than 1920x1080p

The computer display is set to 1680x1050. When connected to tv it is 1920x1080. So that is not the problem. Thinkin maybe a graphic card driver issue?

Any other ideas?

That's a very good starting point - the graphics drivers, that is. If you have a laptop, you may be SOL as the drivers aren't updated all that frequently for the mobile graphics chipsets.

When you are playing BDs on your TV you should have the primary display disabled, and only using the TV.

Not using a laptop using a Dell XPS.

Here is what it looks like when I play a 1080p media file;

But as soon as I switch to blu-ray disc it looks like this:

These are taken off the tv.

I have an XPS420 with a 8800GTX video card and it works superbly with my 1200 x 1920 Dell 27" display. I suspect that your problem is that you need to set the resolution of your video card to 1080 x 1920. What appears to be happening is that you are only seeing 1680/1920 = 0.875 or 7/8 the width of the picture. If your monitor doesn't support 1080 x 1920, then you must change the resolution on the fly when switching between your TV and your monitor or visa versa.

blu-dave;

So u mean it would support blu-ray?

arush;

The card has two dvis. It doesnt matter if I just boot with the dvi-hdmi tv directly or using the second dvi-port and switch after computer started with other primary display.

And it is just a normal dvi-hdmi cable a la 5 meters.

jehill;

When I just boot with the TV as moniter it boots with 1920x1080. The Dell monitor doesnt suppoert 1920x1080 but u can change that when you switch to TV. You can see on the desktop etc that the resolution changes and the settings also say it has. Did u mean anything else? Didnt get the switching it on the fly thingy

thanks for all your replies

i just came across this problem tonight after watching "The Bank Job", i got an oversized view while trying to watch the Special Features on the disc. but as with all blu-ray discs i own, and have rented, the movies themselves have always played perfectly. like i said, first time for me seeing this.. but atleast it was just the SpecialFeatures that were a wreck, and not the movie!

my setup is PC...
Q9450, 9800GTX 675Core, GB X38-DQ6 mobo, Vista32, PwrDVDUltra8, Samsung 226BW 22" WS Monitor (DVI) Resolution always @1680x1050.

here's a few pics i took...
