I would consider taking a look at the Sony PSP don't know much about it but it looks like the most advanced portable game system and has recently gone down in price the Nintendo Ds is more geared towards kids But it's up to you

Plus if you have a PS3 it will connect with the PSP

Hope this helps

My daughter has the pink DS but she mostly likes the pet simulator games and Mario stuff... doubt that will help you much. However from my minor usage of the DS, I think it's a very good portable. It's very backward compatable w/ other iterations of GameBoy, especially GBA. The gameplay and graphics are fine. There is a large selection of titles. It's looks good and is durable.

If I were buying for myself I think I'd go PSP but I don't know the price difference.

I bought the DS lite back when it launched. I bought a couple games, then it just sat there as all my "media money" went to BD's & HDDVD's. Then A Friend recommended the r4. It plays the DS roms from a microSD card in a cartridge the size of a DS game. I can load about 20-25 games per gig.
He sent me a disc with over 250 games. So my DS gets used again, But I'm not sure Nintendo is happy about how it's used.

It depends; do you like any of the games that are on DS? If so, are they DS only games? If you answer yes, then you already have you're answer. As far as what color, if they make a DS with you're favorite color you should buy that one. Black is always a good choice.

It depends on what type if gaming you are into, if you are not too serious then a DS is a great purchase as 'games' like Brain Training and Nintendogs are sort of entertaining, but you can also get a few serious games like FF3 and Dragon Quest. Nintendo are pretty intent on whoring out Mario and Zelda so expect some of those pretty soon as well.

The DS is arguably THE best gaming platform out there, bar none.

It's definitely the most popular. It should be the most popular. It has practically been alone in the handheld console market forever. I think the first entry by Sony (the PSP) has done extremely well in that market despite worldwide sales being half of the DS. Plus it will most likely be around even after Nintendo comes out with another handheld console, because of the PSP's technical advantages (better graphics engine and a processor that runs at the same speed as the PS2 with the ability to be increased to 333MHz).

They are extremely popular here in Korea. Between this and the wii, Nintendo must be rolling in money.

There are lots of PSP's too, but people mostly run bootleg stuff on them.
