Over the years posting on forums I kind of have seen the tide change from when I was younger. It seems like a lot of people go into movies already looking to find things to criticize now days.

I agree with what people are saying here, there’s always been a number of people on the site that I just question “where is their passion for films?”

I’ve moved on from trying to find superiority from belittling entertainment, and I’ve understood that people honestly don’t want to hear it. I feel like I’m at a perfect state of mind entering films that I want to get the most out of what they offer, find what I connect with, ideas, storytelling and atmosphere, I want to talk about how films make me feel, and find out how they achieve that, as opposed to taking tally of likes and dislikes, point scoring and nitpicking. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still critical, but negativity doesn’t equate critical thinking.

I’m just not a fan of this culture of cynicism for cynicism’s sake, a desire to be ahead of the curb by missing the ride, and actively seeking the trees to avoid the forrest. There’s no care and enjoyment in that, in relishing about lacklustre box office results to projects you don’t care about, or watching a film with the simple intention of deconstructing each nitpick because it’s an easy target, an unchallenging achievement to score points off. Watch something that you want to engage with, and sparks the passion to converse and write about.

On point with this post.

I blame the internet for most of those overly critical cynical wannabe film buffs. The internet gave everyone a soap box and thus mini egos. Everyone thinks they're a film buff, literature buff, etc now days and that is why I truly believe so many go into films looking for things to criticize. They want to rag on movies they know most people will like to act high brow or make it seem like they have better taste.

In my experience, it's those types who usually don't know what the holy hell they are talking about when discussing cinema as well as not being able to properly criticize/review movies. Same kind of fools who still can't tell the difference between a plot hole and a simple coincidence/convenience in the script.

Sorry for the rant but having posted on message boards since around 2005 I've worn thin on all the little egos around the internet. I don't post much anymore because there aren't a lot of opinions worth responding to. That and I've become lazy with debates at times hehe.

Who knows what they are talking about. I just said to stop talking about Kevin Costner in a trolling way. I think they are talking about the people that said Taxi Driver is not a good movie. I agree with that, Thats trolling. Saying Kevin Costner is boring is very serious and the truth

And ofc unpopular because majority of people and the popular opinion is Kevin Costner is great. The only thing great about him was...

I wonder if there's a link between the IMDB forums closing their doors and the quality of the discussion in this place beginning to degrade?

I feel that A Star is Born is well acted and directed, but as soon as Ally performs Shallow on stage with Jackson the movie takes a massive nosedive and is single-handily ruined by the Rez character (Ally's agent).
[Show spoiler]Jackson's death is also the most FORCED thing I've ever seen. It's A Star is Born and the male lead is always going to die but the reason for it in this film is really bad. I'd have rather had him die on the Grammy stage

I almost love Jaws 2 more than the original film. I also wouldn't mind seeing a Jaws 5

The Howling is a better werewolf movie than An American Werewolf in London and has a scarier design.

I think some MCU movies get better with age after you see how they tie into other entries. For instance, I think I liked Iron Man 2 better when I saw how it tied in with Avengers. I liked Age of Ultron better after seeing where the Russos took elements from it in Civil War. I also think, starting with the original Avengers, that the MCU built up Captain America into a better character.

Spider-man Homecoming could have worked better if they focused less on the high school life of Peter and more on his relationship with Tony.

I feel like Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse should have been the real Spider-man 4.

I still don't understand what Snyder was trying to do with Sucker Punch.

As much as Mission Impossible: Fallout for most people is the gold standard of Cruise' current middle-aged action phase, Edge Of Tomorrow remains my preferred option.

Aside from the Mission: Impossible movies, I can't remember the last time I looked forward to a Tom Cruise film hitting theaters.

this seems like the thread to post this---

Edge Of Tomorrow was a huge disappointment to me--- it turned into a repetitive bore after the initial novelty of it wore off about a quarter way through....

The only Mission Impossible movie that it's superior to is the lousy John Woo misfire....
