I watched it a couple months ago on TCM. It was interesting, but definitely a one-time watch for me. I doubt I'll pick up the blu-ray unless it's super cheap.

The restoration is 'progressing nicely'.

That's their stock reply (word for word) when anyone asks them for an update on any title.

Ha, I just noticed my joke response to the original 2015 announcement:

Cool, I recently dumped the DVD along with a number of other Synapse titles, never noticing that this had been announced.

Watched a somewhat battered print of this last year (in a cool double-feature with a fine-looking 16mm print of Let's Scare Jessica to Death). It's was really great to see it on a big screen. The atmosphere holds up well. But apparently it is near impossible to find any film materials in good condition (which supposedly is also the hold up with Synapse's release).

Almost a year later from the last post and still nothing.
not too bummed, as long as we get the best quality possible. I haven't watched this since I was a kid, looking to see how it holds up 30+ years later. I do remember having nightmares for weeks after watching this.

For the DVD they had access to the OCN, I doubt that has changed.
From their 2004 press release:

Mastered directly from the original 35mm camera negatives
(thought to be lost for over thirty years)
and mastered in High Definition using a Spirit DataCine Telecine System,
LEMORA is presented with never-before-seen clarity and detail that will leave you breathless.

Ah. I went with what I read on some other site. Thanks for the correction.

I actually have the old DVD, so I should have known better.

It looks very nice, good photography, but the acting is very weak. The actress playing Lemora is striking looking; unfortunately she has some lines to speak and that doesn't work out so well (in other words she's not much of an actress). The lengthy scene with Hy Pike as a weirdo bus driver is very hard to take as anything other than awkward mugging. Also I don't remember anything compelling about the story.

I too hoped that this was some sort of a cult masterpiece but I found it to be ho-hum. You may want to try to rent this first if you haven't seen it. Just my own comparison to something mentioned in this thread, Messiah of Evil, with its own limitations, is miles ahead of Lemora.

I think everything you hated about it is what I loved. A movie this weird isn't for eveybody, but I got to wonder why you would go to a thread of a movie you hate.

It will probably be released about the same time as Cheryl Smith's other classic "Massacre at Central High" and that is never.

Ok it's been almost five years since Synapse announced a Blu-ray restoration and the same for when this thread started. I know Synapse is not saying anything, but is there anyone here who can offer any glimmer of hope?

memo to SYNAPSE--- here's an idea.

How about not announcing (or even hinting about) an upcoming release...

until it's near completion and ready to be released within a reasonable amount of time?
