If there is a point in worrying about how Apple spends their money, I fail to see it. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

What I can do is to keep enjoying this hobby as I have done for over 30 years. It's a lot more fun.

On that topic, I was reading my latest issue of Total film and Brad Pitt reckons movies could be on borrowed time (my words). He compares movies to opera and said he isn’t convinced that the current trend of superhero movies is cyclical and fears movies might just be ‘running their course’.

Well, you know what they say about opinions and a-holes....

I am aware of Brad Pitt's musings about the future of movies; he is more curious about their fate than he is worried for them. I posted quotes from him just a few days back in this thread.

Brad Pitt praises subscription streaming's original content for all of the job opportunities it provides for people in the movie industry while also wondering about its impact on the more traditional methods of making and distributing them. He is not at all panicky about the subject; he is just expressing his concerns.

See his comments here too. I have been saying it for a while but it takes on even more relevance when it’s somebody in the centre of the industry making those comments. He mentions that you g people consume so much media these days and seem to prefer short bursts of stuff. He doubts there is the same appetite for sitting down for two hour films. Concerns I share and have expressed many times.

He praises Netflix alone, pretty much. Simply because they are prepared to take risks. They are liable go with the flow though and make more and more short form should the market demand it.

You see, my posts aren’t just random fears, thought has gone into them.

Box office receipts are up and that alone proves that people are more than willing to spend two hours, or more, to watch a movie. The number one box office juggernaut of all time, Avengers Endgame, was three hours long.

No one is disputing that short form content is popular; it always has been. People are busy; they're mobile, and they watch short subjects to relax between jobs, school, and other commitments. Yet, they also go to the cinema to watch three hour long movies and they plant themselves on their couch to binge watch for hours.

Older generations have always criticized younger generations and vice versa; there is nothing new about that time honored ritual. Movies and shorts have coexisted for over a century and they will continue doing so. There is no objective evidence showing that movies are in any danger of losing their appeal.

But that’s not a healthy situation. People are fanatical about superheroes. What happens hen thy fizzle out? That’s the question I want to see the answer to.

Is it a trend thing that will transition to other genres (like some of MR Pitt’s film buddies think) or will film fizzle out (Brad’s own fears I believe). We won’t find out for a while. However, with Disney looking to tie in theatrical stories with tv episodes. The shape of things to come may be forming.

Brad Pitt, like myself, loves film. You can easily understand that from reading the many many articles I have read from Pitt throughout the years. It’s right to be concerned about something you dearly love.

You mean if they fizzle out.

If one fad dies, another will replace it. Nature, and business, both abhor a vacuum.

Comic book movies are not the only ones showing at the cinema. Plenty of popular derivative horror movies are out there, too. Movies with men and women cavorting about in brightly colored spandex and movies with demonically possessed dolls; it is a film renaissance!

Movies are doing just fine; they are not going to disappear.

Let Brad know as well.

Seriously though, I just think all this Quibi stuff (short form streaming service) combined with 5G and shortened attention spans is the perfect storm. With luck, this shift will not happen entirely in my lifetime.

I love film as much as anyone could. I do not have to be needlessly worried about them in order to prove that love.

There is no objective evidence to indicate that movies are in any peril and thus there is no objective reason for me to be concerned. I do not worry without cause.

I love movies and I am care free about their future.

There are no shortened attention spans. Science has already rendered its verdict on the subject and your insistence otherwise in no way refutes the scientific community. Only alchav is more consistently obstinate in the face of overwhelming facts than you are.

Verizon's Go90 service was similar to Quibi and it failed completely. Even if Quibi is successful, it is just another provider of what we already have: short subjects. The existence of Quibi, whether short or long lived, is not a threat to anything. It is just another option among many options.

Brad also thinks attention spans are shortening.

It doesn't matter if he does.

Brad Pitt is not a scientist and he is not qualified to speak as an expert on the subject. Opinions, even those of celebrities, do not override facts.
