Cremildo: I'm gonna create an appreciation thread to commemorate Ridley Scott's 83rd birthday.
Starscreamx9: How do I pit this into a competition between Scott and every other director?

Now I feel guilty about my contribution to the derailment as well.

Anyway...

Happy Birthday to Ridley Scott!

Nice thread. My contribution : All The Money In The World is massively underrated.

A real shame that the movie was overshadowed by its behind the scenes shenanigans.

You guys have listed some of the best movies of all time but a lot of those movies aren't genre defining. The John Carpenter movies are definitely genre defining. The Departed from Martin Scorsese is not.

Halloween is a great movie and a definitive slasher movie sure. But The Departed got his first Oscar and was praised as one of the best movies of all time.

I'd say that The Departed is a more enjoyable movie than Godfather and Goodfellas, and the characters are more likeable here. So I prefer to these two.

It's a very good film, but one of the best films of all time? Wut?

I'm not even talking about the quality of the movie. Can you honestly say The Departed has influenced movies that have followed it? Taxi Driver definitely has.

Definitely one of the best movies of all time.

Scorsese's best in my opinion. I am a huge DiCaprio fan and that’s his best role, followed by wolf of Wall Street and inception..

The third act was great, it had likeable characters, twists, great acting, great story, a great soundtrack, was grounded and far more realistic than Goodfellas in my opinion.

A groundbreaking masterpiece that made history.

I'm not trolling. It's my third favorite movie.

I love it from start to finish.

Blade Runner 2049 > Blade Runner.

Better action, more enjoyable and less technical.

Villenueve > Scott based on consistency.

Disagree; The original film is better paced, has more imagination, give its villains more deserved screentime and has an actual concrete ending in comparison to that weird sequel hook thing 2049 ends on.

Let's talk about it then.

I thought the sequel was better paced, had better acting overall, because let's be honest... we just remember Rutger's performance and monologue here, and has a better soundtrack.

Villenueve does always his best recently.

The only thing BR does better is the Ending, that's it.
