Film Mode can only be activated in the menu when you are watching 1080i material.

OK i have two TVs, first;

Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E

From here

Backlight: -4 daytime, -6 evening
Contrast: 35
Brightness: -1
Colour: -7
Tint: 9
Colour Temp: Low
Sharpness: -10
Black: Off

Definitely the best settings i have ever found for the LC42XD1E.

The second TV is a Sharp Aquos LC32D65, now this TV has more functions than the previous (Colour Hues, saturation etc) but i can't find ANY settings on the Internet and even though i used the DVE Calibration disc i'm still not happy with it.

I just can't get all of the colour patterns to match (the Red, Green & Blue tests with the colour filter)

Any help would be awesome as where i'm from the word Calibration leaves me with blank stares in TV shops.

this is because the color decoder inside the TV is not accurate...you would need a pro ISF calibration to get it any better.

Let me guess, Green is the culprit? I can get blue and red to mate up, but Green is impossible (literally). My set looks great though, so I'm willing to live with it. I'll be getting another display/projector eventually, ahh the compromise...

Guys, I'm thinking of getting a LC-46D85U... really because it's going for $1500 CDN (one day only door crasher) and I'd like a new TV. Obviously, is this set any good, and how does it compare to Sony and Sammy's similar models?

Thanks.

The LC-46D85U is a realitively good television. It has excellent connectivity (5 HDMI), judder-free 120hz processing, accurate colors, good black levels, and impressive picture controls. However, like all Sharp televisions, there is the issue of image banding. (I really have not noticed it on mine [LC-46D64U], but it could be there.) Still, it is a good televison.

As far as Sony and Samsung, which other televisions were you looking at?

I like a bright picture and not reddish skin tones. As natural skin tones as possible. I've tried setting from some others here and they are too dark. It's either my room or my eyes. Or maybe even the differences in the sets.

Default Need a little assistance somebody

I have an LC-52D64U, and evidently I'm an idiot in some regard. I've been trying to apply some of the settings that are suggested out here (which by the way...thank you), but when it comes to the advanced settings, the film mode, i/p settings and fine motion are completely grayed out. Does this have anything to do with my TV working at 24hz? If so, shouldn't that be something I can configure? If it doesn't, can someone give me a little direction?

Is your display on the Cinema screen? If memory serves, you can't change some of the options in this mode. You possible can in custom/user though

@matt I think it is greyed out because you have a 1080 i/p source connected to the tv via hdmi. Try unplugging your video source and see if the fields can be changed now. Dont know where I read it but that is how I recall accessing the fields to adjust them.

Default Sharp Aquos PC mode

I have been driving myself crazy with settings through this site and AVS forum

I have a 46' and had User settings down for awhile, but lately have been unhappy, I was watching Wanted and then Step Brothers and was really noticing the red in skin tones, so I was switching between PC and Movie Mode. I always find movie mode a bit muted, and was really liking PC mode. Natural, bright colors and deep blacks (at least during Step Brothers)Would keeping my PS3 input for games and movies on PC mode have any negative effect for my TV, ie more power drain etc?

have you tweaked the settings or are you just using the modes? You could always bump the temp from warm to cool, but getting the settings dialed in is preferred

I have tweaked my setting (multiple times) for movie mode and the user settings, but I had switched my movie mode back to the presets.

The useer settings I have are good for HDTV, and I was enjoying them for blu's, but the last few seemed off a bit.

I'll have to try some different settings again.

are you using a disc to calibrate, or just by eye? If at all possible, one should calibrate it by disc for the best results. it will keep you from tweaking based on how bright or dark a movie is.

ah, great idea, I was going by eye based off of various settings I found here and on AVSForum, but never thought in the context of different movies.

I never thought of a disc as it seemed like I had lots of choice provided, but now I am thinking I might.

I just realized last night, that Sony blus come with an easter egg calibration tool, it was in the Step Brothers insert, I was going to try it tonight, do you think that would be as good as a disc?

it'll certainly get you in the ball park. The discs have more patterns (and different patterns) that really help dial it in.

here's how Sony insider Paid Geek said to use the patterns
