It would be nice if WAC would release its own set now containing the remaining Abbott & Costello films, including Rio Rita, Abbott and Costello in Hollywood, Lost in a Harem, Abbott and Costello Meet Captain Kidd and Jack and the Beanstalk. I just ordered the Universal set from Amazon Canada for $101 shipped.

Really looking forward to seeing this restored Africa Screams. Can't believe you surpassed the goal basically a day after the announcement. I'm sure that doesn't happen all the time.

Completely missed the last 24 hours. Dumb question, this is in 3D right?

The only thing that says 3D about this release is the forum section and the 3DFA logo on it though, so it's easy to see why some would think this campaign is misleading without mentioning that it is in fact a 3D title.

Given how quickly we got to the goal, perhaps the stretch goal should be $80,000 for 3D conversion?

Jokes aside I think most of us around here are happy to contribute to anything the 3D film archive decides to turn it's hand to, given their reliable track record for doing a great job.

Congratulations on achieving the goal so fast. Regards, Phil.

As promised, the test scan from 35mm nitrate. Be sure to watch in 1080p HD!

This footage was scanned in 4K resolution from the composite nitrate 35mm fine grain master positive. There is some baked-in jitter on the raw scan from film shrinkage but that has been stabilized. We have not yet done image grading, dirt clean-up or audio sweetening. I wanted to share this clip ASAP and as you can see, the incredible quality of the original nitrate material speaks for itself!

Please continue to share our campaign. Extra funds that we raise will enable us to do additional restoration work on Africa Screams and pursue other licenses for future Abbott and Costello (and 3-D) restoration projects.

We'll be announcing some very cool stretch goals within the week. Thank you!

Any chance of some kind of 3-D inclusion on the disc Bob?

If we can raise another $564 (that’s selling 17 more Blu-rays) you’ll find out!

I respectfully don't even know why this is being posted in the 3D forum.

Some people were confused over Nudie Cuties being real 3D and the response everyone gave was that since the 3D Archive Logo was on it, it's obviously 3D. Less than 2 months later and a 3D Film Archive logo appears on a flat restoration campaign accidentally misleading some diehard fans of 3D. lol

I understand the confusion but the 3-D Film Archive can post whatever they want in this thread.

I'm happy enough with my Abbot & Costello DVDs but if any 3D extras can be secured for this Blu-ray release, needless to say, I'm buying it no questions asked.

It's a shame that Bud & Lou never used 3D.

To answer your concerns, 3-D Film Archive has been a known entity in the film preservation field for nearly 30 years. Over the past 4 years, we've established an excellent reputation with our 17 3-D Blu-ray releases.

If we were to change our name now in order to restore a flat film, it would be like starting over and re-establishing our solid reputation. While I can understand some confusion. it really makes no sense to continue flat restoration work under a different name. In the past year alone, we've worked on several non-3D projects (including the Perspecta Stereophonic Sound on THIS ISLAND EARTH) and nobody was confused.

It would take less than 30 seconds to search online and realize that AFRICA SCREAMS is not a 3-D film. Plus. that fact was made very clear in both the campaign text and video.

On a positive note, we're less than $30 away from successfully funding the first stretch goal. 3-D fans will REALLY enjoy stretch goal #2!
