As a way to safeguard agaisnt bootlegs, you can always buy an opened copy and ask for pics(assuming there none posted) showing the back of the discs, prior to buying.
Thanks! Thatís what i was thinking. Itís just to much of a risk.

So like, am I really far off saying this set has some really ugly video quality in a dozen or so random scenes? It usually looks amazing, but there are random scenes where a combination of banding and compression issues in the darks/blues look horrendous. One example is the Grey Worm/Melissandre love scene, and another is some dark blue moments of the climax up north in episode six. Some really ugly stuff no one seems to be talking about.

I tested this on both players I use and obviously don't have issues with my other 1500+ titles. I also have never seen anything quite this bad on GoT discs before, just some minor issues in the blacks I associated with digital photography.

The Missandei and Grey Worm scene looked like that when it aired and also on the HBOGO app

Are you certain your set isn't counterfeit? It's pretty common with GoT.

5-7 have them. Pretty sure the re-issues of 1-4 have them. The box sets with 1-6 and 1-7 and the versions in standard blu ray cases.

I hope they do a nice simple set like the Season 1-7 release for the whole series once it has ended. Not counting on it though. They will probably do something uber deluxe and uber expensive.

Itís been confirmed that they filmed a reunion special specifically for the eventual complete series box set that will be released in 2019. My bet is there will be a simple, just-the-seasons boxset and then a deluxe, expensive one, maybe with a dragon egg or white walker motif

I have only seen the first seven episodes of season one. I decided to wait until the entire thing was over and if they don't "Lindelof" the ending I will be getting the complete series BD set.

Hopefully a 4k UHD complete series box set will come out. I waited on the season one UHD release hoping for that.

Hmm so it seems that the discs in the Seasons 1-7 box set are different from the ones in the individual seasons? At least in some cases?

I just compared disc 1 season 1 from the 1-7 set with disc 1 from the season 1 special collector's set from way back and the disc size is much smaller and then looking in the stream folder the new disc has 106 items while the old disc had 114 items and then looking at the two larger files that contain the 2 episodes themselves I see that the episodes on the new disc are smaller files (16974750 vs 14929992 and 15152712 vs 13315488). So for the new box set I guess they remastered the discs with maybe a few less extras and with higher compression for some reason? Seems strange since it's still a 50 disc and not a 25 so what was the point? Haven't carefully compared image quality yet (or even at all).

Hmm wow just compared S3D1 between the 1-7 set and the stand alone S3 and again the 1-7 version disc is WAY smaller and the total bitrate for each episode is way less! We are talking 39 vs 32 total bitrate!

So the 1-7 set they spent money to remaster them to lower quality and yet still used the same size 50GB discs? What is the point of that?

I haven't yet compared pic quality, but it's hard to believe it can be as good when it's as big a difference as 32 vs 39 bitrate.

I also wonder if this is maybe why some were saying the new 4k set had more detail than the blu-rays and others saying it didn't at all?

All I had had was 1-3 individual so I figured since they had 1-7 on sale so super low I'd just grab that to catch up, but it seems like it was given some sort of cut rate shabby discs or something? I wonder if this applies for seasons 4-7 too or just 1-3?

My plan had been to sell off my existing 1-3 seasons and just keep the 1-7 set with the cheaper packaging but since the discs seem to have all been remastered to much lower bitrate.... guess maybe I'll see off the 1-3 seasons from the 1-7 for whatever I can get for them (with a valid digital code still, should be something at least) and then just keep it for 4-7 on the cheap (maybe 4-7 are the same quality either way anyway? isn't 4 when they went to not providing DVDs, maybe they went to cheaper mastering all around at that point?). Hmmm although it seems there is just one code for all 7 seasons, so guess have to sell the blu-ray seasons without code....

EDIT: Although I see now that the 1-7 set ones all have Atmos while the original individual early seasons actually don't. All very odd. Maybe a mixed bag between the versions. Although I'd care more about higher bitrate video than Atmos I think.

Well I just compared a bit of disc 1 season 3 between the individual set and the 1-7 set version and yeah the 1-7 set has higher bitrate audio with TrueHD 7.1/Atmos vs MA 5.1 BUT holy cow does the old individual set's video have MUCH higher bitrate. I mean despite smaller audio size the total file size is still larger and I looked at one bit where he starts running through the woods at the start and on the individual release it was pegging a lot of 32 even higher bitrate while the new 1-7 version was only pegging like 21-24! A vastly lower bitrate. Did not screen shots so hard to say, but brief impression was maybe his face was a bit waxier less detail on the 1-7 version.

I really wonder if for 4-7 it's all the same or still the story where the 1-7 has much lower video bitrate.

I wonder why on Earth they remastered 1-3, at the least, now with Atmos and 7.1 (better) and yet then at the same time bothered to remaster the video to much lower bitrate and lower quality? Again it's not like it let them get away with 25GB discs instead of 50GB or anything. Maybe they were anticipating trying to make 2K DI UHDs look better detail-wise and compression artifact-wise to the blu-rays now?

EDIT: anyway, I see the digital codes are selling for crazy $ on ebay so not much to complain about either way, effectively getting seasons 4-7 for just cents over $6 each (and perhaps those ones are not even any different from the stand alone seasons) and then these worse video and perhaps better audio versions for 1-3 for free

If I want all seven seasons of Game of Thrones (GOT) on regular Blu-ray in 1) Dolby Atmos and 2) with best PQ possible/higher video bitrate, can someone please provide a "picture list" (cover art) of the individual season sets for me to look out for?

I just read on this thread how the season 1-7 set has re-mastered & vastly reduced PQ bitrates. Why the hell they did that...I'd love to know.

Thanks for your help.
