I'm not sure it really sold out, or they didn't get any in yet. The electronics guy didn't know anything about it until he looked it up and told me it was "out of stock" along with most of the Targets in my immediate area. Checking online 3 out of 20 Targets in my metro area have some stock. Based on this I suspect some shipments have been delayed. To me, that's too many that all sold out in the first 1-2 hours. It's very unusual.

The other thing is that they didn't have any cardboard display up front like I was expecting, and nothing in the back where the movies normally are. All they had was about 2-3 of each regular release of 4K, blu-ray and DVD up front at the usual checkout area for movies that most Targets have. Either they didn't get much in or they really sold quickly and there is only a few copies left of each type.

This kind of reminds me of the Ghost in the Shell release where Targets outside my area had it, and my area didn't get any until later in the week.

Not sure what to think. Maybe people can chime in with what they saw at Target this morning. I ended up pre-ordering this morning the BB stealbook since it would be a shorter drive for me at lunchtime to pick up today. I hope the case is not dinged up or scratched too much.
I was at Target a few minutes after opening. They had 8 of the exclusives back in electronics. I didn't see any display around, except last week's JPFK one up front. No one else was there buying the movie when I picked up mine. Just a friendly sales associate.

Hopefully you get a mint steelbook, and also are able to get theTarget exclusive.

They have a whole bunch of steelbooks at best buys they will prob be overstocked due to the amount of money they got in theaters. Disney knows this is a way for them to obtain some profit.

I feel so dumb on days like today when I'm like "gosh I want both the Target digipak and the Best Buy steelbook". Which to choose

durable material or paper that chips away every time its slip cover is placed onto it. The choice is rather easy.

I'm usually not one to double dip. I will, of course, upgrade from time to time if a better release comes out later like a Criterion release or maybe a remastered version. While I personally don't buy multiple versions on release day I understand the collector mentality of people that do. I'm that way with other things like toy collecting. If you like the box art and extra goodies I don't think it's so crazy to buy both. There are worse ways to spend your money the way I see it.

I was going to get both but the digipack is 4k only and it only has a digital exclusive content.

So, is it safe to say Walmart has sh*t the bed with another Disney release?

I'm so shallow that I sometimes go to both stores and buy whichever one has fewer units.

I ordered the regular (non-steelbook) 4K edition from BB and chose in-store pickup in a (probably) needless worry about it selling out by the time I get to the store tonight so I'm the one who's dumb . There will likely still be tons of copies on shelves. I'll be tempted to also grab the steelbook version if it's available but I really want to hold off to see if any of the Asian premium labels plan on releasing it. I'd also like to grab JP: Fallen Kingdom UHD if I see it.
