Hi xootoo,

That gives me hope too. Germany often issues 3d films that nobody else does. And don't mean auto conversions.

I don’t mean to be “that guy”, but the only way I’m buying this movie is if there is a 3d release. I really feel like that’s how this was meant to be seen.

I felt the same way, Nightman. It didn't get a 3-D cinema release near me, so I boycotted it. Then when it didn't get a 3-D blu-ray release, I passed. But my dad, being a history buff, kept pestering me till I ordered it. Good thing he did - we were both blown away! It's such a remarkable audiovisual experiment, as a way of bringing history to life, that nothing really compares. I'll double-dip if they ever release a 3-D version anywhere, but I'm not sorry I caved this time. It'll be even more remarkable in 3-D. But even in 2-D, it's a must-see.

Buy it, don't buy it. Just make sure you catch it at some point.

Can someone confirm if the DVD-less Amazon Release is in fact missing the extra features?

It's missing one of the main features, the 3D, so we aren't overly excited about this release.

This is the 3D forum. You need to go to the flat-earth forum (aka 2D, 4k forum).

Not sure how many the DVD has, but there is like a 25 minutes interview with Peter Jackson on the blu-ray. It's pretty good. I think there may have been another special feature but I'm not sure. Hope this helps. I'm not too worried about which thread this is discussed in.

Do we need to get James Cameron out from exploring the bottom of the ocean to try and get this released on 3d? They’ll have to eventually you’d think....

HBO airing this beginning Tuesday night.

Might be a chance we could see it in 3D on demand. Ferdinand was not released on 3D Blu-ray yet HBO aired the 3D print on its demand channel.

I doubt it but hope so. Won't know for a few days after the airing.

Unfortunately, not appearing on HBO on demand 3D. Was hoping so since they aired Ferdinand that way which did not get a 3D release on Blu-ray .

The restoration of old films enhanced with color and audio is something to see, however, something is seriously lost knowing the 3D element is not there.

Dubbed it onto DVDR.

Fortunately there are two excellent 3D discs pertaining to the first world war, though with stills. Tony Robinson's World War one and im kreig (German, region B).

Unfortunately, I missed the 3D fathom event for this film. I’m still hoping a 3D Blu-ray for this documentary gets announced at a later date.

They did end up giving it a wide theatrical release after the Fathom showings were so successful, and had a decent number of 3D showtimes put in there (more than many more expensive films), so at least they gave decent opportunities to see it in 3D unlike some movies.

But I doubt a 3D Blu will come, WB is typically the most likely studio to have a 3D Blu to go along with all the others , and with the current state of the format, it has to have been years since a new release got a deluxe 3D Edition later on (Force Awakens is the last one I can think of). But it is a fantastic documentary, well worth seeing either way.

Hi Camps,

Thanks for the posting. Hoping this might lead to a new release in 3D world wide.

I refused to buy the Blu-ray and dubbed it off HBO for the cost of a fifty cent DVD-R.

a new 3D release along with the Dolby Atmos mix and some new bonus material would be sweet.

I think it is very interesting (and appreciated) that at least in my area, every single showing is in 3D. You would think that would help leave the door open for a home 3D release. If Fathom didn't sell tickets the first time around at a good clip for the 3D version, they surely wouldn't have re-released it that way.

It's pretty easy to get hold of this for home viewing in 2D so there isn't much point in bringing it back theatrically unless it's in 3D.

Well, maybe we can look forward to future 3D re-releases in theaters for all the movies that aren't getting any home 3D releases. Or more likely, this is an anomaly.
