I actually spoke to a couple of people recently who love this movie, but had no idea that the TV series even existed.
The way their eyes lit up after I showed them the Blu-ray with all 152 episodes was priceless.

Sucks that Toei probably doesn't have the original uncut negatives or the Dolby Surround master track (since the Japanese theatrical poster mentioned Dolby Stereo and LPCM Jap track appears to be mono), and saddled Discotek with an Q-Tec DNR'd upscale of the censored version with shoddly upscaled and vertically squeezed theatrical and video endings.

However, Discotek at least gave us a widescreen framed version in addition (Japanese theatrical showings and the US Streamline runs were almost certainly matted to 1.85 or therebouts) and the Streamline video opening/ending and trailer (which lacks the original Streamline Pictures logo if i'm not mistaken).

Don't see why it wouldn't be. Even in the 90s, companies would only censor out sex, not violence, from anime movies like kite...then make complete uncut versions after. It's not uncommon for there to be material in trailers that aren't actually in the movie.

So I got this yesterday and what a thing of beauty. Minus the VHS caliber violence scenes. Why were those censored to begin with? There are plenty of anime's that were violent from this time period and later on as well that were not censored via low quality shots.

EDIT: Never mind. Found this article.

Don't see anything on that page of the link you posted, but here's another link about it: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ans...-08-06/.135125

Not sure why the link I posted doesn't go to the page. Either way, thanks for sharing that article as well. Very interesting read, and I wish that someday we'll get this film uncensored. Until then, this is a very good release.

I looked at the trailers in the bonus features, and they actually offered discount tickets to students. For this movie.
