As far as something like Jo Jo's, I'm completely opposite from you - I basically avoid all comedies, and really despise those manic, screaming kind of comedies. So any insane comedy - no. I prefer more serious and truer to life action, mystery/thriller, sci-fi/fantasy, drama, slice of life, and some romance - and stuff that's deep or makes you think, especially. I'm over 50, so my age has a lot to do with that, I think...

Comedy is what makes life interesting-anime like Dragon Half, the Hot Springs Planet Tenrei episode of Outlaw Star, Elf Princess Rune and Detatoko Princess to name a few make laugh my ass off everytime I rewatch em'.

haha yes...yes we do.

Yeah the yelling is kind of annoying but overall the show is tolerable. I enjoy it for what it is. Don't know if I enjoy it enough to buy it.

Well, it's a battle shonen, so nothing much different than DBZ or Bleach - it's a genre I can't stand - although, I will admit KLK has been better than those, at least. So, I guess it's less sh!t than other sh!t, lol....

haha yeah I feel you. I'm not much on certain genres as well. Mech stuff not a huge fan of but will watch it. And like you I don't like tons of fanservice but it won't kill the deal on if I buy a series or not.

Not really, it's not a shonen. It's about girls, shonen is boy based.

It's kinda unfair to compare Bakemonogatari with Kill la Kill. As much as I like Bakemonogatari, it's right up there at the height of anime pretentiousness. Kill la Kill is pretty much as light as it gets (unless you intend to work out every single reference to 80s anime it throws at you).

Aniplex always puts out such nice releases, and this is no exception. Although I watched Kill la Kill religiously when it was airing, I was so conflicted about it. It was cool and turn my brain off easy to watch, but it always felt like it wasn't hitting the right notes.

Shonen/shoujo describes the target audience, not the subject matter directly.

But alvarez468 is correct that Kill La Kill is a seinen show since it's geared toward a older male audience than most shonen series.

Older than who - grade schoolers? lol, I'm just teasing!

Anyway, most likely I will eventually finish the series on Netflix, since I am about halfway through it (and since there isn't that much on Netflix to choose to watch, anime-wise) - It's just not a series I would ever purchase.

I thought the dub was amazing. One of the best I've ever heard actually. Hopefully they don't take too long to release the rest of the sets.

I think something that people are missing about the fanservice is that Kill la Kill is a show that openly mocks fanservice anime tropes while adhering to them.

I loved the show... but I think I'll have to wait for a collection of some sort since they're going 4 episodes a blu ray. The space the completes series will take up on my blu rack bugs me almost as much as the amount of time it'd take to complete the series after having already seen it all the same day it aired in Japan.

There really isn't any fanservice in the first place. The putting on and taking off of the Goku suits is part of the story, therefore any nudity depicted is there for the sole purpose of advancing the story along. Therefore, NOT fanservice.

+1 I hate fan service anime myself. The only exception is Highschool of the Dead(big zombie fan) and I also don't consider KLK a fan service show.

While I agree there is no fan service in way it is usually viewed the overall design of the Kamui uniforms Senketsu and Junketsu could be viewed as fan service. Also in episode 4 for example when the Mankanshokus are trying to get Senketsu back to Ryuko the constant pulling down of her pajamas to reveal her panties could be considered fan service. But in no way is it a fan service show.
