About a year ago I pulled out my letterboxed CPM DVD release of this to see if it still stood the test of time. To my delight, it did. Unfortunately the DVD when stretched to fit a widescreen TV looks like a Laserdisc copied to DVD-R. I know it was a very early DVD but still, it was barely a step above VHS.

Needless to say, I will be buying the Blu Ray. Discotek does great work and they release a lot of stuff no one else will touch as it's all very niche stuff.
I'll just wait for a sale on it.

I'm looking forward to getting it. Anime fans today seem to either like it or hate it. My memories of the movie are foggy, close to 20 years ago. I remember liking it but it didn't make on my "best anime of all time!" pile, which admittedly was based on very limited exposure of anime titles. I do remember it looking great though and I am sure it still looks great judging by the odd clips of it I still see every so often.

Discotek's recent DVD looked great and was clearly from a new-ish HD transfer, so I look forward to getting this eventually (Discotek usually sells their wares for pretty cheap at cons).

Been looking for a decent price on Venus War Blu-ray and Best Buy has a release date of 12/22/15. I wonder if it has been delayed?

Link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/the-venu...skuId=29899163

Also, trailer (not by Discotek though):

^^^

Considering this is a DT title, I think I'll hold off and hope that it turns up during RS next Holiday Sale.

Holy sh...

One of my fav anime films of all time, and I was recently lamenting that we might never see it on BR...

Wonder how well the video scenes will hold up...

Anyhows, day 1 for sure.

Did this actually come out yet? Didn't hit the original 15th date and the revised 22nd date, afaik. Amazon says "temporarily out of stock".

Anyone lucky enough to get this movie?

Anyone spotted this in store at Best Buy or FYE? I'd rather buy it in person if possible and I see Best Buy sometimes has newer anime releases.

Anyone liking Venus Wars might want to consider checking out
Giant Gorg which was a mecha series from Sunrise headed by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko. Just released by Discotek/Eastern Star.

He usually only did character designs and animation director for anime titles like the original Gundam series and Z Gundam but Giant Gorg was part of his original creation.

This has dropped to $17.99 at Best Buy and Amazon for anyone on the fence. I haven't seen this before, but had to bite at that price.
