I sent a request to Pioneer back in November for the 3.74 firmware disc to be mailed to me and it hasn't arrived yet. Is this normal? What should I do?

This doesn't seem normal. I have used the link that you provided in the past and I've always received the update disc without any issue. I haven't requested 3.74 though. Can you post that link again and I will request 3.74 and see what happens?

Had an interesting experience....was watching American Horror Story - Season 1.

Selected the option in the menu to watch the entire season where it'd remember where you left off (versus watching individual episodes).

Watched over a couple weekends - finally got to where I had to insert the 3rd disc but when it got to the menu it kept saying to insert disc 3. Even if I manually picked the episode to watch. No matter what I did or what option I picked it wouldn't play. I threw the disc in my other 23fd and it started up no problem - so it wasn't the disc itself.

My guess was that the 23fd's abysmally small flash card memory was full or corrupted - so I put in another movie to 'break' it reading from that memory. After the movie loaded I ejected, and put back disc 3.

And.....it worked! I was able to play it again.

I've played other shows such as Game of Thrones or Orphan Black that also had a similar 'watch the entire season' option with no problems....so who knows.

But might help someone else who runs into the same problem.

So I'll be getting my media room done this spring and have decided to upgrade my 23-FD to Pio's latest the 85-FD.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...ayers/BDP-85FD

I know I could have gone with Oppo, but as I have a Pio receiver, it makes sense to keep them paired.

As Pioneer has sold their consumer division to Onkyo, this is likely to be the last Blu-ray player released by Pioneer.

Thanks for posting this. I've had my 23-FD for a long time now and feel like an upgrade will be due soon enough. I'll try to keep the 85-FD in mind, as I've been very happy with the 23-FD.

So I got my 85FD yesterday and fired it up today. So far so good.

The thing looks nice and is built solid. The remote style changed (think if you crossed the previous Pio remotes with the current Panasonic ones) but it's not a big deal.

I stress tested it by putting in Apocalypse Now which used to take forever to load on my 23FD. It loaded a whole 2 minutes faster on the 85FD. So load times have been dramatically improved.

It still supports PQLS when paired with a Pio receiver as well.

Well shit.

The tray on my 85fd won't open anymore. I'm guessing it's now a giant paper weight.

Take it or mail it to a authorized service center for a estimate. Then you can decide if you want to get it fixed.

Ya I found one...that may be authorized - Pioneer's website led me to it, but I question how accurate their site is.

Piss me off as it's probably just a drive belt that needs replacing which costs what? 99cents? But I can't open it up as there's some weird proprietary screws on the sides.
