That would be something, but I half expect them to bring the cast from The Origin and Unicorn back.

The dub is being produced by NYAV. While they've cast some Canadian VAs in two recent projects, I wouldn't expect them to do that here when they've already got their own UC Gundam cast.

Just in case anyone else was curious, I asked Rightstuf to update the listing on their Standard SEED Blu-Ray sets and it looks like all the extras were ported over from the CE.

Still fascinating to me that the episode deemed unfit for release outside of Japan is now a movie, hopefully they might be able to include that episode on a physical release of this at least, be nice to finally have an official subbed version of it.

There is an officially subbed version of it, it's on the UC Libraries set. I mentioned it in this thread a while back

I am planning to see it tonight, at Alamo Drafthouse, where it's playing on their The Big Show screen. I hope it's a hit and pushes Sunrise to re-do the OG MSG series in this new design and format.

It's a nice little slice of Gundam and fits well with the first 1/4th of the OG MSG. After having viewed it and the previous Origin episodes that fit with this, I really do want Sunrise to give us a re-imagined MSG that feels fresh and classic at the same time, like this and Origin did.

For those who have seen the movie, would it be able to fit nicely as a substitute for episode 15? It would be cool if the original episode was included as a bonus feature on the Blu-ray.

A shame the Ocean cast wasn't brought back, but this looks like a solid cast. At least it's a SAG-AFTRA dub.

Visitors to the upcoming Gundam Metaverse will be able to talk with interactive AI characters. The Gundam Conference Autumn 2022 stream featured the debut of an AI character named Mellow Neige. The character wearing Haro-themed headband and necklace will appear in the Metaverse to discuss Gundam-related topics with the community via chats with a voice tone that feels close to a real human.

Shortly after Mellow’s introduction video which starts at the 12:04 mark, Bandai Namco’s Chief Gundam Officer Kouji Fujiwara revealed more details about the AI character. The company will fill Mellow’s database with knowledge about the Gundam franchise and the Gunpla kits. When the Metaverse goes live, the AI will learn more from the community’s responses. Mellow will not have a gender due to being an AI. At the end of the introduction video, Mellow hinted that the Metaverse may have more AI characters available.

Gundam Metaverse’s Mellow is one of the numerous AI characters that Bandai Namco is creating as a part of its larger AI development project. On the same day, the company published a new press release that re-introduced its Play BY Live AI character project.

In June 2022, Bandai Namco Entertainment launched the Go Round Game channel which would feature three AI VTubers in total. Two of the characters, Yuha and Satori Neon, are currently under active operation by regularly streaming mahjong matches. The third AI VTuber, Miyako Popuri, will debut at a later date.

While a conventional VTuber would have a real human acting behind the Live2D avatar, these characters are completely AI-managed. They will react to game situations and stream comments while generating speeches with intonations that feel as close as possible to real humans. The latter press release also confirmed that the Gundam Metaverse’s main interactive AI, Mellow Neige, will come from the same AI character technology that Bandai Namco has been working on.

Bandai Namco initially revealed the Gundam Metaverse project at the March 2022 Gundam Conference. It will create a hub where people can gather and talk about the franchise’s anime, games, music, and plamodels. The Road to Gunpla Battle project, which aims to realize a scanning system for customized kits, is also part of the Metaverse project. The company will hold a closed test for the Gunpla section of the Gundam Metaverse within 2022.

No, the way in which they changed the episode's story for the movie prevent it from fitting into the original series. It also reveals some characters and events from a bit further into the series, so it is clearly intended for fans who have seen the full series (or at least most of it).

No. In the general sense, it does, but the movie is radically different than the episode in that only the basic plot remains the same, while many of the elements and continuity are completely different. It really felt like I was watching part of a re-imagined MSG OVA series and not "a missing piece of MSG". The best comparison I can make is DYRL to Macross.

There seems to be a delay on the orders for MSG: SD Volume 2, but the cause is unknown. Likely, replication and packaging for distribution are holding it up.

Today’s Teens: Gundam Is For Old People

Quote:
"Gundam isn't aimed at us." "If I see Gundam [in the title] I won't watch it." These were things Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury producer Takuya Okamoto heard from teens who visited Sunrise on a social studies trip. Those were shocking words, he told Akiba-Souken in a recent interview. It occurred to him that even Mobile Suit Gundam Seed is 20 years old now, so the teens who watched it then would be in their thirties now. The feelings of today's kids furthered his resolve to make Gundam: The Witch From Mercury as accessible to their generation as possible.

According to Okamoto, even before he joined the project, the general idea for Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury was to be an entry point for the franchise to a new generation. Talks about a new Gundam set in an alternate universe from the Universal Century timeline started around 2018, and Okamoto personally came on board in 2020. He was told, "Make a Gundam with a female protagonist."

Although other Gundam series in the past have featured schools, many stories were serious from the start, often focusing on child soldiers. Hearing that modern teens were alienated by this kind of plot was a wakeup call for Okamoto. From there, the staff discussed the idea of setting Gundam: The Witch From Mercury in a school. They hoped that the teen audience would be able to identify with characters who don't personally feel impacted by large-scale political events at first. It is also notable that the TV series airs at a 5:00 p.m. time slot in Japan, so the staff felt that it was important not to make the beginning of the story too heavy. Nevertheless, Okamoto noted that the series has plenty of drama that can be appreciated by an adult audience too.

As for the female protagonist, Okamoto remarked that although there were some aspects of the character they were able to depict because of her gender, the staff was not particularly fixated on it. The idea was to portray her as simply a person. The word "witch" in the title has many different meanings, and its significance will become clearer as the story progresses.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Kidō Senshi Gundam: Suisei no Majo) is the first new Gundam television anime series in seven years, and the first main Gundam television anime series with a female protagonist. The anime premiered in Japan on October 2. The prologue episode for the anime aired on September 25 at 5:00 p.m. The anime will air its second cours (quarter of a year) in April 2023.

The first and second Reconguista films have quietly been relisted on TRSI. They’re currently noted as being “No Longer Available” however can still be added to your cart.
