I'm not so sure: it's simultaneously theatrical and VOD. With the market for Morricone's scores and the occassional concert disc I'd have thought it wasa no brainer.

Glad they’re regularly doing BDs but if anything I wish they still did DVD just so they could sneak the smaller titles out on a physical release even if projected sales are low.

I noticed JFK Revisited has no UK disc from Altitude but is getting a French Blu in the summer.

At least the latter just had the Criterion release announced, but not everybody can play Region A or wants to spend $20+ on an import.
If it is any consolation The Mole Agent has been released on DVD in Australia.

I did notice Picturehouse are doing a whole Morricone season in July starting with The Great Silence, definitely a lot to celebrate about him.

I watched Orca a few weeks ago and I really appreciate the presence of his music in that film.

I've not been able to find any details about that (not that there are any Picturehouse's near me, and as far as I'm aware I'm still banned from the closest one for politely complaining about them showing a 1.66:1 film stretched to 2.35:1) but hopefully it's not as unimaginative a selection as the NFT's 17-film season back in 2020, which was mainly the usual suspects and a couple of wildcards with minimalist scores that didn't really showcase the variety of his work and skipped the Europop and comedy scores altogether (though a case could be made for his 'compilation' score for The Untouchables being a 60s-70s crime movie greatest hits collection).

1.66:1 stretched to 2.35:1 sounds par for the course with Picturehouse! Had lots of issues with them from poor projection to everything they decide not to screen (or only show once) to their pricing, but sometimes they’ll show a good film that makes up for it.

It doesn't seem like The Card Counter is getting a release, it was one of my favourites from last year. Big star + critically acclaimed + important director = who cares? Might have to pick up the US release for god knows how much.

An outside chance of Second Sight picking it up from Universal for a UK Blu-ray eventually. Would be worth pursuing as I bet Schrader would be up for a chat about it (as he was for Indicator). Could even bundle it with First Reformed, which is one of the best films of recent years (and possibly even Ethan Hawke's finest hour).

Most affordable releases to import should be the French, German and Italian (around €17 each), but the US BD is also A/B and the Canadian BD from VVS will likely be region free too, and Scanbox released it in Scandinavian territories.

That makes me happy. The running time seems very fluid, though - it's variously listed as 144, 150, 156 (the BBFC figure for theatrical and streaming) and 167 minutes.

I mean, the BBFC says 156 mins so I'll go with that.

The US edition appeared back in December, but a full six months on from its theatrical release in most of the major territories and there's still no news of a blu ray of The French Dispatch anywhere in Europe. This strikes me as very odd, even by the MausHaus' exceedingly low bar for oddness. Perhaps they're going to retitle it The Mouse that Snored.....

It really is, only rationale (outside of just general Cannybearseness) is they know it’s eventually getting a release from Criterion, but so doubt they have that much foresight.

Better late than never! Though this'll probably nix any idea of a Second Sight release now. Still, hope they get First Reformed instead (which is £2.99 in the HMV clearance, btw, for anyone that doesn't have it yet).

Not quite the same as a Blu release is still scheduled, but I just noticed that Sing 2 has lost it's 4K listing, even though the US has one.

Universal seems to be getting a little less stingy when it comes to letting third parties release their films, hopefully this means we’ll see more titles coming out that would usually be skipped over, like Red Rocket, or perhaps a couple that they’ve bypassed over the years.

My French Dispatch anxiety has now shifted onto Titane and constant hoping one day we’ll hear something from it. I can only imagine either Second Sight have nabbed it to go with their Raw release, or MUBI might pull something considering they have rights in territories and the Drive My Car news.

I also wish they would put the date up for Licorice Pizza, holding off pre-ordering it.

I hope the French film Happening gets a blu ray release.
