The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls: Revenge of the Hori Clan. Instead we got a second season of Basilisk which was boring and bland.

Would have also loved to see more of The Devil is a Part-Timer, Gunsmith Cats, Great Teacher Onizuka and Full Metal Panic.

Edit: Adding Johji Manabe's Drakuun to the list.

3x3 Eyes.

Though considering today's production standards in Japan and their unwilingness to make shows that takes itself seriously - I'd say it's probably for the best that 3x3 Eyes never got a long running series adaptation because they'd undoubtedly f**k it up with lazy, corner cutting animation standards today. Not to mention current production values wouldn't come close to reproducing Yuzo Takeda's demon opus like the 1993 OVA did. In the 80's and 90's, Japan was willing to invest into adult shows/content.

Not anymore. Or at least very rarely, and when they do - it's a extremely short run... (Devilman Crybaby for example, only 10 episodes)

I wouldn't like to see cel era OVAs and movies turned into modern TV series with cheap CG animation. If the production values were as good as something like Yamato 2199, maybe. But a big part of the appeal of those classic titles is the animation itself. The detailed character art in titles like Ninja Scroll or Plastic Little would need to be seriously streamlined for a TV show, which would take away much of the appeal for me.

I would have preferred that any TV series based on my listed anime was done around the time that the OVA/Movie was done.

A little off topic but I wish Slayers got more movies especially with Amelia and Zelgatiss.

Would have loved more episodes of Cyber City, the 3 episode OVA just isn’t enough.

Berserk (vol.1-41) and make the Dreamcast game; Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc: Chapter of the Flowers of Oblivion into a movie, to bridge the seasons similarly how Ufotable did with Demon Slayer with Mugen Train. Adapted by a competent studio only. I would prefer an extended series of OVA's but TV series would work too, the only changes I wish they would make to the series, is have the chapters be in chronological order and not break up the Black Swordsmans Arc to have the flashback Golden Age Arc, I think if you have Guts as a child > Golden Age Arc > Black Swordsman Arc > Retribution Arc etc it becomes a more epic story and newcomers jumping on will be more surprised than if they adapted vols 1 -3 with the Count Apostle and God Hand appear etc

Top 5 Studio preference would be

1. Mad House

2. Ufotable

3. Bones

4. Mappa

5. Trigger

There aren't any. Years ago I would have said books like Akira and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. But I don't care for how most animation looks now. Why bother when they would be such downgrades visually and most definitely have lamer soundtracks than the original movies?

I would have loved it if Gainax did a full Blazing Transfer Student series back in the day. The OVA is wonderful and hilarious, I would even be fine with a 6 episode OVA, 2 episodes was just too short.

Otomo announced a few years ago that he was making a Akira anime series with SUNRISE but this was a few years ago so who knows if production was stalled or canceled. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pol...orbital-era-tv

I’ve always wanted to see an anime adaption of Akira Toriyama’s Sand Land. With how short the manga is (only one volume), it would probably work best as a movie unless the story was greatly expanded.

I wish there was a really good hand drawn Street Fighter series that featured pretty much every character from the series with crossovers from Final Fight and Saturday Night Slam Masters (Capcom games which share characters/universe).

Now that I think about it, a Final Fight OVA series would have been legit in 1990, too.

"Covid derailed just about every plan for the whole entertainment industry, so everything is delay until things get back on track."

The Japanese animation industry (in terms of production/ animation studios) is so volatile and flimsy that even so much as a sneeze in the wrong direction can put a show on hiatus or just outright get cancelled.

Honestly now you have me thinking about it I'm super surprised that didn't actually happen. Like seriously how didn't Final Fight get some sort of OVA? it was prime material for one...weird.

As much as people love the movie, I think an Akira series would be a lot better. The movie had to compress a lot of stuff to keep to a sensible runtime, and it was made before the manga was even finished. A new adaptation that covered the whole manga would be really interesting to see.
