You may find that getting a 2nd job or doing some gig work on the side would be beneficial. Staying busy and making money is usually a good way to work through things. Having that extra financial cushion will help you sleep better at night, and will help you afford the things you want. I say this from experience as my side business was started specifically to pay for my anime/movies/shows/vidya. |

Eta: really good advice Briwas. There was a lot I missed out on collecting before I became more financially secure. I didn't even start collecting anime until 2013 or so. |

The other option, which had been available for years, would have been to buy the Kaze release from the UK/Europe (although that obviously required a region free player). I did that years ago, as it was a fraction of the price. But I believe that release is OOP now.
Edit:Looks like you could get part 2 of the Kaze release for Labyrinth of Magic pretty cheap off eBay ($17-$18); copies of part 1 are more like $37-$40. Still, that's not much different than the cost of the Aniplex set you missed out on, so that's what I'd recommend, if you're looking for a solution. Last edited by Glorian; 11-26-2022 at 05:26 PM. |

If you have multiple copies of an OOP anime it would be nice of you to sell your least favorite copy. You don't need to give anyone a discount, but at least putting it out at the current market price is good enough. The main frustration of collecting anime is things going OOP (or never getting licensed at all) and you have the power to help a person with the OOP part.

For those who have not noticed yet:
Nichijou - My Ordinary Life: The Complete Series is now OOP. A few copies are still available for reasonable price at Amazon.com and Ebay but apparently they won't last long. |

If you want Nichijou you might want to buy it from an ebay seller before the prices get jacked up. I think the market price will reach at least 70 for this item, so even if you do end up getting your rightstuff order you could sell the $35 eBay one and get all your money back and a small profit. I don't know how badly you want it, but a little work right now could save you some anguish later. PS. I got my copies of nichijou from the summer sale back during the summer. Either they are waiting on a final print run so they can fulfill orders, or they are awaiting verification that no more copies will arrive. |

Yes I have ordered many an in stock item that went OOP and later had my order canceled AND missed out on buying a reasonably priced one somewhere else while I was waiting.

People are so adverse to picking up the phone and calling Rightstuf's Customer Service, it's the easiest, quickest, and best-guarranteed way to get anything done with them. I find it such a chore to type out a dang message to them and then wait 3-4 days for them to get back to you. I don't ever use their Contact Form for anything; I just pick up the phone and call them so I can talk to someone who can help me or answer my questions right then and there.

Pfft, thats just a bunch of BS and a big cop out excuse. Their phone number is right at the top of their web page. It's pathetic that these youger generations can't handle interfacing with an actual human in person or over the phone anymore, all thanks to social media and texting.

9.5 times outta 10 I have no reason to complain when I miss an anime that goes OOP. Every once in awhile there is something in really short print supply like Violet Evergarden or MHA S2P1. That stinks. But we have all the time in the world to pre-order the rest of these items. That's what pre-orders are for. Righstuf offers basically everything, if you have the fear of missing out. No excuses. You can pre-order any and all of it.
For me personally, it's more important to buy 50% of my anime for half price than to worry about the 1 of 8 things I miss out on. My funds are extremely limited and you can have most of what you want as long as you have a little patience. Plan ahead, make a wishlist, bookmark everything, and be ready to jump when the sale happens. Buyers remorse is obnoxious and I'd rather not have only 1/2 the anime that I own. Besides, the chase is half the fun too. You can sometimes track items down later and acquiring that stuff feels rewarding, and I get so much more enjoyment out of seeing those items on my shelves, and viewing them. It's like finishing the hunt, or completing a quest. You win some you lose some. I find myself more preoccupied shaking my head at people that have this strange need to constantly talk about how much stuff they buy, how they have to own EVERYTHING, and only seem to be able to focus and talk about the sheer materialism of the hobby 24/7. That's gross. It's super materialistic, and often borders on compulsion and mental sickness, sometimes even depression. Esp when it leads to really weird and awkward humblebrag complaints later such as, "There is nothing left for me to buy =/ ". Just, ugh. Focus on all the great things you have in life and be thankful for them. Not what is 'missing'. |

Let me give you a good example. Which one is the more impressive NECA Turtles collection display? :
[Show spoiler] Because I know what 9 outta 10 people definitely would say. No one else is impressed with all that clutter and gluttony, besides other gluttons. Take pride in what you do. Hone that collection, and be able to part with things as well. A good collection needs trimming or pruning every now and then. |
