Not that the chroma channels are at the same resolution as the luma because they're not, having been sampled at of the resolution of the luminance, so when it's encoded to video the chroma is quite blocky even on the best encodes. It never really became a problem on BD but there's something about UHD compression that can really undermine the integrity of the chroma channels.

When the channels (Luminance + colour difference blue + colour difference red = YCbCr) are combined this artefact can be virtually invisible on some movies and horribly blatant on others, it often depends on how bonkers the HDR is. Push more light through it, especially the average picture level (which boosts the mid tones and not just the highlights), and it can really stand out, but even then some people could stare at it all day and not see it. It's one of those things you either notice or you don't, and seeing it in motion is always the acid test.
THANK YOU SO MUCH about this great and detailed explanation. I'm glad that it's not a flaw inherent to the original 4K HD transfer, and the movie has been properly preserved.
It's about compression and encode related to the UHD Blu-Ray.

None on the DV stream (at least on this scene).

Sorry about the poor quality pics.

Great to know. So it's about the UHD Blu-Ray support. Compression and encode. The transfer itself is perfect.
