When I simulate 3D, it's having my Sony player set to +3 so the TV senses an incoming 3D signal and then setting the monitor to -2. Don't ask me why but that combination provides the best result.
Peter Jackson's King Kong really stood out. So did Canadian Rockies by Rail. Also watched the 1933 King Kong like Phil and for myself found pleasant spatial seperation more than depth but have it on DVD and not Blu-ray which might account for that. Gonna try it with the original Toho release of Godzilla of the early fifties (Japanese version) which is on Blu-ray. At times I watch cable simulated as well. This is different because the set uses it's own simulation circuitry. Found using it's "vivid" mode, which is awful for regular viewing, compensates for the darker image and provides the best depth, though more limited than with Blu-rays. Golf and nature shows are surprisingly good and baseball at times comes across more natural. Last edited by Joe D.; 07-08-2019 at 03:41 AM. |

I want drama 3D. I think the landscapes and slow pace works best for 3D

The Matrix because there are several occasions where the camera goes through things. Like code, the phone mic holes, etc. The elevator explosion scene would be worth the price of admission alone.

Actually I have watched a few 2D simulating 3D combining adjustments on both my player and monitor.. My player converts to 3D and the monitor detects an incoming 3D signal.
Almost any nature bluray looks great. No pop outs but plenty of backwards depth. Same holds true with movies when completely out doors. As far as movies, Peter Jackson's King Kong sticks out as having a very good simulation so converted professionally it would probably look fantastic. . Would love to see James Bond in 3D, especially when shooting a bullet at us through the gun barrel logo |

It's may not be an obvious choice, but I've always thought that the Beatles movie Yellow Submarine would be fantastic in 3D. Just imagine scenes like this (and the movie is full of them) with depth as well as vibrant colors.

Reading the 3D concert thread made me think how much I wanted this to be converted into 3D. It is Eva Cassidy's concert in Blues Alley DC in Jan 1996 as watched by original surviving band members. It is not really a concert per se but a documentary.
Just came out 2 nights ago. |

I always thought that Scooby-Doo 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Speed Racer and 2001: A Space Odyssey would look amazing in 3D. Those movies have shots with amazing depth that would involve incredible pop-outs.
For more recent movies I have to say Deadpool, that credit sequence at the beggining begs for 3D. |
