What is the best flash drive for playing MKVs on a BDP-X700, in both playback and the speed it takes to transfer them to the drive? It can take a really long time to add them to the drive I currently own.
I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DK171N5 |

I had noticed a split-second freeze at one point on my Top Gun: Maverick 4K UHD disc (when Maverick wakes up in the snow late in the film). It was inconsequential and did not affect my enjoyment, but I decided to check the firmware. After the update, the split-second freeze was gone. |

A couple months ago I snagged one of these for $7 at the thrift store. Needed a remote and power cord. Out of pocket total around $20. Nicely replaced me ol Samsung player. So far no playback problems! Looks and sounds amazing.

Something weird just happened. I put on a movie and everything worked fine, then I paused it and when I returned to play it, there was no sound (it was the atmos track), I put a different track and it worked fine. I tried a different movie and everything worked the same as the previous movie (no sound in atmos, but there was sound in other tracks).
Any thoughts on what the issue might be? |

Well, the RF X700 I thought was a good deal might not have been. It's frozen on both A Christmas Story and Shrek 2, even after cleaning both discs and exchanging A Christmas Story. I tried some suggested fixes like updating the firmware, turning off quick start, factory resetting, and disconnecting from the internet. Still nothing. Out of frustration I hooked up my non-RF X700 that it replaced and it plays both movies perfectly, just like it has every other disc.
Unless anybody has any other bright ideas (I've heard the Facebook settings mentioned, but haven't found them) I suppose I can still use it as a RF player for blus, but it's silly to have 2 players hooked up to the same TV. |

Does anyone get a small (half a second or so) "stutter" with 4K discs with this player? It happened to me on Top Gun Maverick (when they crash in the snow). It happened last night towards the end of Luca. It happened on Ralph Breaks the Internet.
It's not a gigantic issue, but it's annoying and shouldn't be happening. And yes, I have replaced the HDMI cord and what not. I've also wiped the discs. Thoughts? Advice? Thank you. |

I own this player and have had no issues with playback of either 4K or standard Blu-rays. If your issue is just with 4K discs, could it be that there is a slight compatibility issue with the HDMI cable? I know you replaced it, but is it a 4K rated one?

I only use it to play 4K discs. Yes, it's a 4K high speed cable.

Sony & LG ones, and I'm not sure it affects all of them, but definitely some or all of the X500, X700, X800, X800M2, UBK90 models have many reports of triple-layer disc freezes. I can personally vouch for it being a major issue on the Sony X500.

I hope the things I read here (about playback on Sony & LG & lower end Panasonic players) are not the norm for most people. If it is the norm, then I will not be buying so-called 4K or UHD discs. I have 2 Sony X700's and 1 LG90 and they play all my Blu-rays without issues. I've only played 4 or 5 4K/UHD discs on them (as I do not yet have a 4K TV) and I have not had an issue so far (but 4 or 5 does not amount to much). I don't want physical media to go away, but this 4K player forum is not encouraging as far as UHD physical disc playback goes. |

It's a pretty minor annoyance; and I don't think I've seen it on every 4K disc; other than the brief "freeze" at the layer change it's a very solid player that I would recommend.
