So what was this big announcement that was supposed to happen this past weekend?
As for Part 1, more random thoughts. Episode 3's flower power episode was a weird one. I can't say I hated it, but I can't exactly say I was in love with it either. The girl dying because flowers are destroyed was a bit much. The next one though, my god, lived up to its reputation. I'm not sure which I found more amuzing, Fujiko's failed attempts to free Lupin thanks to Jigen or Lupin dupoing Zenigata. I have been told this episode was like Lupin meets The Shawshank Redemption and I can totally see why. The one that introduced Goemon was also good. Their little chase across traffic was pretty fun. I think my favorite scene though is when Lupin throws fire on him and he gets Lupin caught in the flames too. After that there was a really badass scene of Lupin just out of the blue shooting an imposter of Jigen that shocked me. At first, I thought he really did kill him. It was cleverly done. I also enjoyed the ambulance heist moment. The return of Goemon and Lupin chasing him with half of his car was solid. The last one I watched had tarot cards that apparently belonged to Napoleon. I really liked the way Lupin duped the villain into releasing the cards from their secure location. I am curious though, doe Scorpio from the first episode ever return? So far every episode seems just feature new villains, which is cool, but Scorpio has the potential to be the Lupin version of Spectre. Given that the first episode told us there is a relationship between Lupin and the group, surely they come back, right? Quote:

Lupin Part II is DVD-only, across 4 DVD releases. There are no Blu-rays for Part II. He was complaining because the case for Part 4 was in a black case, when the other 3 were in clear DVD cases. There is a universal shortage of DVD cases so is probably why this one is black.

If you're willing to pay you could probably buy an empty clear case from Amazon or eBay. Just double check it has enough disc holders/hubs and has a plastic exterior sleeve to hold the cover/jacket

Regardless, yeah, that is annoying. I hate it when companies don't keep consistency with the same case style for a franchise. Like every Yu Yu Hakushoa BD had a different type of case and that was only FOUR volumes long. Viz had the same issue with their Sailor Moon discs and even Discotek's other stuff is inconsistent (at least they aren't all the same series though). Now I'm worried that every Lupin disc is going to be a different case. |

The one about Fujiko's past on Disc 1 was a tad weird not because of its story telling (though, it was interseting to have an original story about a character who is unconscious for 90% of the show), rather, the amount animation errors found in it. The one with the clock tower and the forger was intriguing. It actually made me think of a scene out of an episode of Batman The Animated Series. Oh, and the bomber episode where Lupin and Jigen had to take some money across a series of islands was well done. On the other hand, I was not a huge fan of this episode that had Fujiko working with (or against, I'm confused) some mercenaries in a wintery place. Thankfully, the one following it dealing with a time traveler was solid overall, albeit a tad odd. Finally, I rounded out my free time with a bust. No, the episode itself wasn't a bust, it revolved around a bust. It was pretty fun and seeing Lupin play around with Zenigata continued to be pure joy. |

Hmmmm, that doesn't sound as interesting. Anyway, knocked out disc 2.
The jewel heist episode was a tad odd. I loved how the gang stole the jewels, but then they escaped in their underwear was certainly unexpected. The counterfeit episode was a damn good one despite the drop in animation quality (I remember our conversation from a while back as to why it does though). While it was kind of obvious that Fujiko was working with the nightclub owner the whole time, I still enjoyed how everything played out in the end. Following that was another top notch episode with a beauty contest. This one might be up there as being one of my favorite episodes from the entire show. The way the pagent is conducted is clever and I loved how Lupin put the dudes in a bind. They can either go to jail for kidnapping or admit they were buying stolen art. Either way, they're screwed. BTW, was one of the buyers Mr Gold? It looked just like him. The Inspector Ganimard one wasn't as good as the last two, but still enjoyable nonetheless. I liked how Ganimard purposely challenged Lupin to come after him. Watching Zenigata punch Ganimard was quite satisfying. Finally, the one with the island of assassins was not exactly the greatest. I like how Lupin made fools of them, but it felt very generic compared to what happened in the last several episodes. With only three episodes left, I'm a bit sad. Not sure where I want to go from here, honestly. Do I just continue going in order despite Part 2 not being released on Blu-Ray or do I skip it? Do I go for the movies and specials or the series? |
