Yeah I recall things online from long enough back that I personally do not think Epcar was misremembering things, and it either was a miscommunication where he had incorrect information, or as you state their likely are allot of issues with any further dubs IF they even were completed, which I think is unlikely, though given the info from Epcar I do think to some extent things had begun and were shut down.

It’s very plausible Epcar was misremembering. It’s far from uncommon for VAs to forget or misremember details from their work. Sometimes they forget entire characters that they voiced for multiple episodes. Most of their work is done in a vacuum; it’s not like on-camera acting where you have a physical experience on set. Even there, busy actors don’t often remember everything about everything they work on. Epcar may have been confused because far more episodes indeed were recorded (and released on DVD) than were on TV.

The main reason I side more with the mention being accurate, is I recall first reading about it while still in high school, so like 2005-2006 most likely. Even then, I do know VO sessions for many projects aren’t set up in a way to make them memorable to the actors, plus you can wind up doing multiple projects all at once sometimes as well only adding to the potential confusion. I feel like fairly soon removed from something you’d still recall the details pretty well though.

On a completely different note, does it bother anyone else that some of the commentaries on the Blu-rays are new replacements from the ones on the DVD’s? For the fact that we have 4 dubs alone for Mamo, seems like a bit of a miss in preservation not just having both commentaries for some things instead of only including the newer one. Not the end of the world, just very odd hearing mention of the old commentary on the new Part 1 release, and First Contact has an oddly added new intro before then going into the original commentary (in progress). They serve to correct some details and such in the older one, which due to that reason I’d likely only listen to once, but it would be kind of neat to see them released as an audio file for those that care to have access to them without needing to keep the DVD sets also.

If this is about Part II, we actually tracked down the producer at Phuuz when we were doing the DVDs and he said there were no more. We tracked this down to everyone we possibly could ask about it, and all sources point to the fact that only those episodes were done at the time, sorry to say.

Yeah no more likely were done, just seems plausible some extent of planning could have occurred, and perhaps partial production if deemed necessary for some reason or another, regardless nothing that would make continuing the dub any easier now. One thing I wonder is if they theoretically choose to merely continue the dub, how hard would it be to also go back and at least redo some of the anachronistic elements that aren’t particularly well liked from the existing dub? I think that’s why many would like to see a from scratch redub, but might be possible to do something simpler to address some issues while still mainly continuing where things left off.

There would've been no reason for Phuuz to do any production whatsoever for anything they weren't contracted to work on. They recorded the next episode preview for episode 80 (because it was a part of 79), but that's as far as they went.

And I doubt anything would be changed for any future release. It would be much more involved than what they did to the Animaze Cagliostro dub to remove the language for a bonus audio track.

The first five episodes of Part II (sub • dub) are available for streaming at HIDIVE. The next five will drop at a later date.

With Discotek's upcoming Panel at Boston on Saturday what's peoples hopes for Lupin reveals?

I'm hoping "Dead or Alive" & "Farewell to Nostradamus" get announced

TBH its actually one of my least favorite Lupin adventures (Haven't watched it in years but from what I remember I just found the gang seemed to be sort of extraneous compared to the power struggle going on in the counrty)

However I would be happy if it and Tokyo Crisis got released so I can finally upgrade the old Funimation DVDs

It's not my favorite, your right the vibe is different, but my most want from what else needs to be released. Farewell to Nostradamus is great one as well. Honestly i'll be happy with any cel era stuff.

My mistake - I meant "Farewell to Nostradamus" - waiting for a BD of that one to upgrade my old Funimation DVD

These two are in dire need of an upgrade over the old non-anamorphic Funimation DVDs.

That's weird, it says movie number 6 on the back even though it's movie number 5 in reality. Hopefully that can get corrected before it gets sent off to the printers.

If I had to guess, they're probably counting Fuma as a movie.

Number 5 counts Fuma as a movie.

1. Mystery of Mamo
2. Castle of Cagliostro
3. Gold of Babylon
4. Fuma Conspiracy
5. Dead or Alive
6. Farewell to Nostradamus
