IT is the same way in Japan. There is no standard 4K release there either so of course there is no way they would let the US do it.

Reasonable points from both of you. Still has my consumer choice feathers quite ruffled. Oh well. That's par for the course with anime it seems haha.

That's how I feel. I'll never listen to the CD, I might glance at the book once, the sticker is utterly useless and I'll never hang the poster. Is it that much to ask for just a standard 4K/BD in a normal case? lol

I'll probably try and sell some of my unwanted Pops to fund this, but still... I'd much rather pay just $30 for the movie discs than $60+ for the stuff I do not want.

I mean, I don't mind having the extra stuff (the soundtrack is rad--no pun intended) but it's a lot of money to pay when we can't know for sure that the UHD won't have the same edge enhancement as the Toho UHD. If anything, I'd get it later when someone was selling it at a considerable discount.

I am not sure, but it for sure doesn't seem as limited as the UK one that sold out in a day on Zavvi US and UK

Got the UK 4K Ultra box set and the US Steelbook set on pre-order, so I should be good. I assume the US 4K set uses an amaray case, so I'll stick with the UK release for the extra steelbook.

Well that explains why Anime Limited's release uses the Madman designed title rather than the GKIDS designed title, despite using GKIDS' title design for their theatrical run.

Yikes... $80 for the collectors edition just to get the film in 4K..... any chance they will do an individual release for the 4K UHD version down the road? $80 is a bit too rich for my blood just for one film.

I have this per-ordered from Shout! Factory just in case, but I am hoping at least one of those individual 4K Blu-ray releases will materialize in another region with English subtitles.

On the other hand, I really liked their release of The Deer Hunter. With Criterion failing or just refusing to get on board with UHD Blu-ray, I would really like to support Shout! Factory's efforts in that regard now that they seem to be moving into feature film territory.

If you can understand Japanese, the JP 5 disc Limited Edition is the best release (although pricer than the NA and UK Collector Editions) as it has the UHD, a booklet, script, decal sticker, and 3 bonus features discs. However, while English subs are available for the film, the bonus material does not have English subs.

The NA/UK/AU standard releases will have around 2 hours of bonus features from the JP Limited Edition (Talk Show: Makoto Shinkai and Yumiko Udo, "Weather Front" Featurette). The NA/UK/AU Collector’s Editions will have a additional bonus BD with a 90 minute documentary from the JP Limited Edition, a UHD Blu-ray film disc, a translated booklet, mini poster, decal sticker, and a Soundtrack CD by Radwimps. The UK and AU Collector’s Editions will also have a Steelbook and Art Cards.

I was looking at the GKIDS press release for the Collector’s Edition, and it seems to indicate a another bonus feature (not listed on the standard BD press release nor on the standard BD’s listing on Shout Factory) would be available.

Quote:
Exclusive to the limited edition 4-disc set is the highest possible quality version of the film, in stunning 4K UHD™, as well as the full-length feature and standard bonus features on Blu-ray™, an additional Blu-ray™ disc dedicated to the feature-length documentary “The Making Of Weathering With You,” as well as the film’s soundtrack on CD, a 104-page perfect bound book, a mini poster, and decal sticker, all in a beautiful hard case designed for collectors. Additional bonus features on the feature film’s Blu-ray™ disc include an interview with Director Makoto Shinkai, the “Weather Front” featurette, a talk show interview with Makoto Shinkai and journalist Yumiko Udo, director filmography featurette, and trailers & TV spots.

Bonus Features:
– *4K UHD Presentation of Feature Film
– *CD Soundtrack
– *104-page Book
– *Feature-Length Documentary “The Making of Weathering With You”
– *Mini-Poster
– *Decal Sticker
Interview with Director Makoto Shinkai
– “Weather Front” Featurette
– Talk Show: Makoto Shinkai and Yumiko Udo
– Director Filmography Featurette
– Trailers & TV Spots

*Indicates items exclusive to the Collector’s Edition
The interview with Shinkai is likely the same feature shown after the Fathom Events screenings. It’s great if it gets included, as the Fathom Events feature provided a brief but substantial insight to the film, with clips from several interviews and publicity events.

I got the 1080p version and its nice so far. Id love to have the 4k version but plex forces a transcode when useing subtitles and 4k transcoding isnt good thanks to the lack of tone mapping. but its a sweet little movie i enjoy it

And I just had to correct info on the Canadian UHD. It incorrectly listed that the film is only 96 minutes and listed the dub as being Hypersonic.
