One of our team maintains just such a list here, and it should be 100% accurate as it's updated every month (most recently yesterday).
What are the chances you guys pull an Arrow and start operating in the US? Your releases are invariably better than Kino and even Criterion counterparts. First the stunning Dietrich box, now this. We need you guys here. These films deserve your loving releases on both sides of the Atlantic.

Indicator, blink once if there might be a similar sized Fields set in 2022. . .

I guess Diabolik won't be carrying this? Would this have appeared on their site by now if it were . . ? I usually like to go to them for things like this, but guess I can order from Indicator direct.

I’ll take Kino releasing genuinely rare and unique stuff (which somehow, somehow, they never get credit for) over Indicator releasing mediocre Mae West films.

But really, I appreciate each of these labels. Can we knock this kind of silly stuff off already?

Indicator releasing mediocre Mae West films.

Ouch! Clearly not a fan of Mae West.

Haven’t Kino released 9 of those 10 Mae West movies….?

That being said, I agree with the general point, Powerhouse and Kino are both great labels.

Completely unfamiliar with Mae West's work, but judging from the posts here I should definitely be buying this and also it's not worth buying?

I'm leaning toward not buying and then hating myself for it when it goes OOP. Or maybe I'll eventually pick it up in a sale. I've seen her two most acclaimed early films and they didn't do a lot for me personally. I'm willing to revisit, but only at the right price tag. That said, I appreciate that this exists all the same.

I make that mistake very often. But I don't know if it's a mistake or you did right, and it's only the feeling that there is something you could have obtained, but didn't, and now it's not available to you, and you want it simply because you can't have it (unless you shell out).
The opposite of "after you get what you want you don't want it".

I think this set is intended more for established fans of her work and of pre-code cinema in general. Most everyone on this forum is very well-versed in what they already like, so if they aren’t familiar with Mae West yet there’s probably a reason and this set wouldn’t be worth it for them, and that’s fine. Even die-hard Mae West fans admit that She Done Him Wrong and I’m No Angel are the only two movies in her filmography that were actually important not only in her own career but in the history of Hollywood and of censorship in America. Almost everything after those two was a regression (and it wasn’t her fault).

I don't think that's necessarily true. At the end of the day many of the movies in this box are just movies that might appeal to anyone just like the other movies in other sets or that Indicator releases, just because Mae West is the star in them doesn't mean they can't be enjoyed by, say, the same who enjoy the Hammer movies that only connoisseurs would already know, or the Columbia Noir ones.
I would say that any fan of movies from the Golden Age has the potential to enjoy these movies.

I am surprised at this luke-warm reception of this box set. Mae West - love her or hate her - is a Hollywood icon who helped shape the production code. I have the 5 film DVD set from the US and enjoyed all of them. Also, in the US, Kino thought there is enough interest in NINE of these films (even the 'weaker' ones) to release them individually. If they didn't think those would turn a profit by themselves, they would have done a boxset. Their business model is only box releases that they don't think will sell strongly by themselves. Net: there seems to be interest in these films by enough people in US/UK to justify this set. I can't wait for this to be released.

That should have been the first reason to dismiss the "not interest" claim, you are right!

In many cases I suspect that reason is lack of exposure - there was a UK DVD set, but I can only recall one of her movies ever playing on UK TV, and that possibly programmed more as a W.C. Fields film (and UK screenings of his movies are pretty much a once in a decade event). I suspect in the past they were either considered too risque (pre-Code) or too poor (post-code) for the usual weekend matinee or late night slots vintage movies got and today they're just too 'old.'

I'M NO ANGEL was on UK Gold in the recent past. I know because I recorded it and finally got around to watching it last weekend. I *think* it's just about enough to make me want to try the whole boxset.
