I'd say its her best and funniest. She Done Him Wrong is one I found a big disappointment first time but really enjoyed on a second viewing, so it's probably fair to say you have to be in the right mood for her films to work best.

Sorry to divert slightly but, Indicator, if you're listening, WE NEED MORE DIETRICH ON BLU!

There are U.S. Kino or French Elephant BDs of
SONG OF SONGS
DESIRE
THE GARDEN OF ALLAH
& ANGEL

Now that'd make a lovely boxset wouldn't it.

It'd be even better with the silent THE WOMAN ONE LONGS FOR too,
or even KNIGHT WITHOUT ARMOUR (although that one's not even had a UK DVD release and it's a cracker of a film)
(why does he keep shouting movie titles?)
(COS THESE MOVIES NEED PROMOTION THAT'S WHY!)

(and STAGE FRIGHT... well STAGE FRIGHT would be too much to even dream for... yet I go on dreaming..... zzzzzzzz....oh look i've bored myself comatose....)

I imagine it's only a matter of time until Stage Fright gets the Warner Archive treatment.

I don't think there's much time for WAC left, sadly. At least on disc.

It's in the works, per the podcast. Late this year/early next IIRC.

Yeah, my problem at the moment is my DVR is full of movies I'm not in the mood for, but I have to watch them to clear space.

That seems to be a good news/bad news scenario here:

Good news: it's with Fremantle in the UK
Bad news: it's with Fremantle in the UK

So does that mean it would be wise to import the Kino or it would not be wise to import the Kino?
Teach me wisdom, Aclea.
You lot with all yer knowledge forget that some of us here have no idea what "being with Disney" or " being with Fremantle" means.
I have learnt (I think) that "being with Disney" is not altogether a good thing.
And isn't Fremantle a place in Australia, sport?
The confusion intensifies.

If you’re region free, import the Kino.

Currently it’s £21 delivered through the AMZ global store.

Thanks, Spectre.
i usually use All Your Music for U.S. imports mainly cos i think their packaging is second to none.
But unfortunately 2 recent orders from them (both Kino Dietrichs : Angel & The Woman One Longs For) seem to have gone walkabout somewhere. I havent received them anyway. This has put me off ordering from the States a bit at the moment.
The Garden of Allah though is an interesting one in that it's a rare colour Dietrich film, and quite an early colour film for anyone ('36).
I havent seen it for ages although i do remember i used to find it a little bit dull and that Dietrich wasn't very Dietrichy in it. Usually a strong nonconforming outsider - but in Garden more of a wet blanket mooning over fellow wet blanket Charles Boyer.
But i have an urge to watch it again so it must have had something.

Odd. I've used AYM a fair bit, and never received anything from them that wasn't in a bog-standard bubble wrap-lined envelope, usually sent by west-bound banana boat via Tierra del fuego. As for Allah, perhaps the "something" was its retina-scorching Technicolor...

As for your other concerns, recourse to that interweb thingy yields the hardly-to-be-guessed-at: https://fremantle.com/, full of enlightening this and that, though scarcely hinting at their capricious and frequently crap track record in matters of title choice and execution. As for the dread MausHaus, they have stated that it is their policy to "vault" the Fox catalogue they willy-nilly acquired two years ago primarily in pursuit of the latter's superior distribution platforms; and cursory examination of any of the boutique threads on here whose labels had previously licenced directly from Fox - BFI, Arrow, Eureka - will rapidly reveal title after title going out of print as the rights expire and are no longer renewed by the small unpleasant rodent.

Here endeth the lesson.....

Fremantle these days only do WWE wrestling Blurays, but when they did release back-catalogue films from their vaults, the results were not pretty (ie their cropped to widescreen World at War). Indeed, their 'restored' UK release of Straw Dogs has a well-deserved reputation as the worst Blu-ray ever released in this country. On the plus side it carries over the plethora of extra features from the UK DVD and adds a new featurette Before and After: Restoring a Classic - the short revealing that the film looked better BEFORE than after.

Far from improving the picture quality over the earlier DVD release, they actually seem to have made it worse: not just a little worse, but a lot worse - washed out, often lacking in definition and looking like it had been mastered from an old 16mm TV copy rather than the original 35mm negative. Contrast has been increased with loss of detail, colours are unconvincing (flesh tones are particularly variable) and blacks are often green. Depth is often absent from the image, giving it the flat look of an old 60s magazine photograph at times. After a while you just lose the will to persevere with the disc it's so poor.

That, I'm afraid, is the Fremantle effect...

Save your points for when you aren't using the BUNDLE code. I don't think you can use points and BUNDLE on the same order.

From Indicators newsletter:

Quote:
We will be moving the release date of MAE WEST IN HOLLYWOOD, 1932–1943 to 13th December in order to allow us the time we need to accommodate an exciting new addition to this already expansive set. The BUNDLE OFFER will continue to be active until the next new-release announcement.

That's fine. I have too much shit coming in before December as it is. This year has been killing me. It's nearing a breaking point. It's been a great year being region free. Financially? It's kicking my ass to the point where I may have to totally rethink my passion for films. Hahaha.

I mean, maybe I should just drink more and do some drugs? That shit is probably cheaper than being region free for me. Hahaha.

Loving the addition of comedy shorts from the time period (in addition to the rest of the extras).
