Default "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" BD release in Japan!!

According to ghibliworld.com Studio Ghibli will release "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" on BD in Japan (December 3.)! Two seasons of the TV series will follow soon afterwards.

http://www.ghibliworld.com/news.html#2109

I think we can expect BD releases of their catalog titles one at a time, from the oldest to the most recent movie.

Can they just release a Miyazaki boxset in BD? That would make things much easier. Of course they need both English and Japanese audio tracks since Kiki's Delivery Service was one of the last works done by the late great Phil Hartman.

Great news, although a bit disappointed at the 1080i video ... oh well, maybe we won't even notice the difference for a movie this old.

But I fully agree that what we really need, is BD releases of the more famous Ghibli works such as Totoro or Sen to Chihiro.

Castle of Cagliostro may have been directed by Miyazaki, but it is not a Studio Ghilbli movie. It was released in 1979, Studio Ghibli was founded in 1985. Also, the Blu-ray (and all other Lupin III DVDs/Blu-rays) will be released by VAP in Japan. Ghibli is Disney/Buena Vista.

In short: Don't get your hopes up for Ghibli on Blu-ray just because of this release. But we might get one or more Ghibli catalog releases when Ponyo comes out (which will be sometime next year I imagine).
