The Hisense appreciation Thread

This is kinda depressing. I did some research and apparently a 55" TV from 12 feet away (my viewing distance) you may not be able to see the difference between 1080 and 4K. They recommend at my distance to have an 85" TV and that's not gonna happen. I really wanna stay at 55" but seems like there's no benefit. I can't change the distance as my living room is set and will never change. Damn I was looking forward to buying a 55" Hisense at a good $ but seems like it's not worth bothering.

If it's a good 4k transfer and your other equipment is good, you should see a difference. You might not see a difference in resolution all the time, but you should see an upgrade in black levels, contrast and color saturation. Go for it! Of course it also depends what tv you are replacing. I replaced a great plasma (developed pink lines) so sometimes my new upper, mid tier vizio just looks a little better.

You'd be fine with a 65-75. That's what I'm going to get when I do the 4K upgrade.

Thanks. I spoke with the wife about this and I'll likely go with a 75" and put it on the wall. Problem is that moves the tv back another 2 feet almost. I'd like to grab a 85" but the pricing (at least for the Hisense A68H line) jumps almost double from 75" to 85" on Amazon.ca. I wanna stay under $1000 so a 75" will have to do.

Do some research before you settle on wall-mounting. Because of the "make it thinner" trend, pretty much all TVs have rear speakers now, which may not work well with your particular mounting location, but you can get a mount that telescopes out - negating that two-foot increase - and even rotates, to "free the sound". A soundbar may also be an option and some of those can mount directly to the TV body or a TV mount.

I never liked the idea of wall mounting my TVs because, you'll have to drill and feed the cables from inside the walls, so the cables won't show, that's if you want the job to look neat, and that's just too much work. If all the cables are going to show, the wall mount is going to look sloppy. It much easier have the portability to put it on a tv stand.

They're just different settings for Dolby Vision content. I have my U8G set to Dolby Vision Dark, which to me looks best for movies, which is what I mostly watch. The other two settings trigger motion enhancement, which I don't like. Actually, I'm not sure if I have Dolby Vision Custom. I know I definitely have Dolby Vision IQ.

It has the panel of a 3000 dollar tv but the guts of...........a Hisense. Basically if you are feeding it 4K content or something that is being upscaled by a good external source it looks incredible. However anything from a cable box or antenna won't look as good. If you get it you have to get an external streamer. I use the Roku Ultra personally. You can't really use the apps on the TV. Shut off the wifi on the tv, don't set up Google TV and disable all the internal apps on the tv so nothing takes processing power away from the picture. If everything is coming from your external streamer, 4K player or Game system it will look crazy good. I mean the black levels on this thing are near OLED and it can go to like 1800 nits.

If you want better processing go for the TCL R655 however you won't get those black levels and a little less brightness.

This was my plan anyway. I have a 2018 TCL 55R617 and I run everything through my Apple TV 4K or my LGUBK90. I would do the same with either U8H or TCL 65R646. I use to work at Best Buy and one of the few things I learned from that place was to never EVER using the Smart functionality on Smart TVs. That’ll give your TV a quick death.

How exactly does the "Energy Saver" mode for the U6G works? I emailed Hisense this question and they never responded.

Just turn it off. It's probably the light saver thing adjusts the backlight to the room. To me it just dulls the picture

I guess I’ll put this here. I don’t really know where else I’d put it…

I’ve shortlisted the 55 inch U8H on my list as a potential 4K replacement for my relatively old bargain bin 42 inch Samsung 1080p LED. The TV will have a Panasonic UB820, Sony BDP-S5500 and an Apple TV 4K (2nd Gen) hooked up to it and a Vizio 2.1 soundbar via optical. It won’t have cable hooked up to it and I don’t plan to use any of the online features/internal apps aside from any firmware updates I may need.

The price is incredibly compelling and the size is absolutely the cherry on top. The other option I’m looking at is saving up another year (at most, could happen in 6-8 months, I don’t know) for a 42 inch LG C2 OLED. I want it but at the same time, I feel like it might not be everything I want. It might be some overkill and not worth the price difference and cutting down the size to essentially what I have now. I could swing a 48 inch but I just don’t know. I’ve got a lot to chew on.

I'm still happy with my 50U6G: in watching TV, films, and playing video games. I know there are better TVs, but I'm happy with the budget entry, for now.

I just received my Hisense U6H 50” today for my bedroom, loving the tv so far but having a hard time calibrating it to my liking. Mainly for digital content atm

I just got a U8H and I keep reading to stay away from the internal apps. My FireStick doesn't fit in HDMI 2 because of size though, do you know if there's any detriment in putting it to HDMI 4 where it says 4k120hz? I've read on the 120hz outputs the TV halves resolution.

Appreciate your efforts, with some good comments regarding the plight of the cheapos. Basically, they're all a bear to calibrate.

Though I'm hoping they get better, I don't see things changing much. "Half-price" TVs are good enough for their business model.

This TV gets better reviews than Samsung and Sony LEDs that cost twice as much.

No telling what happened if/when cheapos obtain sparkling, industry-leading reviews. Real world viewing often contrasts such results. Thus it's no surprise when replacement or re-buy is soon required.

Calibration, color accuracy, processing, motion, durabilty are sticking points. Not a vivid picture or suspect dimming.
