That cover is trying way too hard to hide the fact that it's a 56 year old movie.

I compared the old VCI DVD against their promo clip and the results are not positive. Outside of cropping the lower image, the BD contrast is off and the DVD seems to have more detail.

Granted I capped the BD image from their YouTube clip but it does indeed look rather poor to me. Hopefully the BD itself looss better than that clip but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I sure hope this is so (lost my hearing in 2011 with no prior hearing problems). Although, I've not been able to find any confirmation, and VCI doesn't usually add English subtitles. Regardless, it's a great classic flick. I may be tempted to get it anyway, even if it's released with out such amenities. BTW, thanks for the post.

I'd hold off on taking too much from a Youtube clip given 1080 30 fps on there is max 2.5-3 mbps and who knows how much re-encoding went on to upload the clip.
Hoping for the best.

I am setting my expectations low here. I love this film, but I really fear VCI will smother it in DNR, like so many other small label releases we have seen this last year.

Sounds like this could have been solid, but VCI has lower standards to uphold.
"Contrast and grayscale levels are generally good, if a tad too bright in spots, and black levels, though properly solid, tend to display artifacting and other video noise. Grain is minimal in favor of some apparent digital noise reduction"

Default Congratulations, it's a ....

another botched VCI release!
Cropped, interlaced 1080i, wonky 14 GB encode on a dual layered disc ) and even more flaws!.

That's really disappointing, I was looking forward to this release I guess I shouldn't be surprised though, considering VCI's track record and all

He's such an idiot, I take his reviews with a grain of salt. I don't buy the feature being 14gb, when the disc takes up 40+. He did something wrong. The framing looks fine, too. I can live with interlacing as well. I'm not defending the release, btw -- just commenting on his BS.
