Default ManBeast's ManCave Work in Progress

After nearly a year of being in the process, I have got the keys to my own place!

It is a 2 bedroom flat with a second level that comprises one decent size room...and this is what I am going to turn into an entertainment theater.

This thread is more for me to track the progress to the finished build but thought others might like to see the journey it takes.

The room was previously the main bedroom. The flat itself is 10 years old and it doesn't look like this room was decorated since then. There are quite a lot of marks on the walls.

This is how it looked on first getting the keys...

The chair has been left for me but it is useful to gauge what the viewing distance will be like. There is a fair bit of space behind the seating area but there are some awkward windows and a radiator so not a whole lot of room to have a big storage unit.

Trying out different paints on the wall. I got rid of the light fitting on that wall to make way for a screen. I am going for the lighter grey in the photo and a darker tone on the ceilings and in the window recesses.

Today I have taken the projector I have bought for the room (an Optoma UHD51A) so I can adjust the ceiling mount to get it to a custom length. The one I bought from Optoma is too short. The ceiling itself is 11 meters tall. I marked on the celing where the mount needs to go as tomorrow I will start painting it...

I tested using a DVD of Top Gun to get a very rough idea of what the image will be like and how much leeway I can get with adjust the projector. Pretty sure I am going to get a 120" tab-tensioned screen to go on the wall.

Tomorrow, all the walls and the ceiling will get one coat of paint so things should start taking shape.

To be continued...

Got one coat of paint on the ceilings and walls today, one more coat tomorrow should be enough.

I am going for a dark carpet with some speckle which will hopefully smarten the room up.

My frames were ready for collection today so I picked those up. I am not ready to put these anywhere but it was good to see the frames suit the walls well, with the artwork adding a bit of colour to the room.

Can we add "mancave" to the list of overused words that should never be uttered or typed again?

Love the paint color. Keep updating! We are about to purchase our second home and my needs list includes a dedicated theater space. Gears are turning...

Not much of an update today. The carpet is now done so I can start bringing furniture in. Already assembled some of my IKEA stuff, including two TV stands (to fit a soundbar) and a shelving unit to house my record collection - I have more vinyl than what is on display!

I think it will be a little while until I can put up the projector screen as I should focus on moving my bed in so I can actually live here

Projector mount is ready to go in the ceiling. This had to be extended a little bit.

Including vinyl in a home theatre is a must for any true music lover! Can’t wait to see how it all comes together.
