So let me ask you guys this...is a 10 film Jason boxset worth $72. Because if it is, you can just happily throw away your useless part 3 and JGTH theatrical version (still not confirmed btw). Minus those 2 potential setbacks, I still thinks it's a hell of a good deal.

My rankings:

5/5

Friday the 13th Part 2
Friday the 13th The Final Chapter

4/5

Friday the 13th (1980)
Friday the 13th Part 3
Friday the 13th Part 6
Friday the 13th Part 7

3/5

Friday the 13th Part 5
Friday the 13th (2009)
Jason Goes To Hell
Freddy vs Jason

2/5

Jason X
Friday the 13th Part 8

Best Friday - Part 2

Worst Friday - Jason X

Best Kill - Wheelchair machete to the face (part 2)

Best Jason - Ted White (Final Chapter)

Best Jason Design - New Blood

Best Final Girl - Amy Steel (Ginny)

Sexiest Friday Girl - Part 5 (Debi Sue Voorhees - Tina)

Best Friday - Parts 1 and 2 alternate back and forth for me but it usually seems to be Part 1. Best atmosphere...many good memories childhood and adulthood linked to this movie.

Worst Friday - Jason Goes to Hell by far.

Best Kill - Corkscrew to the hand, machete to the face of Crispin Glover in Final Chapter. The set up, him yelling to Ted "Hey Ted...Hey Ted where's the corkscrew??" Getting a one-two punch of a kill. Brutal.

Best Jason - This is a tough call. I love little bits of each Jason portrayal in Parts 2, 3 and 4. In Part 2, I love the bag over his head, the running, backwoods living in a shack he made himself. In Part 3, he has even more personality...harpooning Vera and casually tossing it aside and walking off, lifting up his mask and grinning at Chris, just f*cking with her. In Final Chapter, Ted White is flat out menacing, he means business, the look is perfect. Ted White at the moment.

Best Jason Design - Gotta go with Ted White again. He is what I think of when I think of Jason.

Best Final Girl - Ginny. Easily my favorite. Smart, resourceful, cute. Actually when she pulls up late in her car.... So hot rocking the classy dress.

Sexiest Friday Girl - Another tough call. Marcie is pretty sexy in Part 1. Ginny has her moments in two, also like the chick who's hot for Mark in the wheelchair. Part 3 has the hottest trio...something about Debbie gets me going Of course, Tina (Debi Sue Voorhees) in 5. Megan in Part 6. They're all close...it's either Debbie or Megan. Think I'll lean towards the blonde "bad girl" daughter of a cop.

Thumbs up

Since amazon has it back at $95, I put it back on preorder and it will stay there. I wasn't going to pay no $115 for it and the theatrical versions are fine be me, as long as I have them in the high definition picture and sound quality.

If I want to watch the original or Jason Goes to Hell uncut, I still have my Blu-ray and DVD. It isn't like the films are all that different anyway. With the original, the most noticeable extension is Kevin Bacon's death and in HD it looks fake as hell. Jason Goes to Hell is more nasty in its uncut form, but with the theatrical cut you still get everything. It is just a little tones down. Even with being a little tones down, it is still a nasty movie.

My franchise ranks always change, but for now it looks like this:

Friday the 13th (1980)
Friday the 13th Part 2
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood
Friday the 13th Part 3
Friday the 13th (2009)
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Jason X
Freddy vs. Jason
Jason Goes to Hell

Best franchise kill: frozen head smash in Jason X!

I've always had a soft spot for Jason X especially for the kills. One that always stands out for me is the girl in the sleeping bag getting swung like a baseball bat against the tree

Those girls in Jason X weren't really real so Jason didn't really kill anybody in that scene.

Oh yeah. I haven't seen it for a while. Wasn't it a hologram or dream or something? Still cool though.

It was a hologram recreation of Crystal Lake. It was played mostly for laughs which was what the girls were doing when Jason was bashing their guts out against the tree. Still got part 7 for a more serious sleeping bag bash.

Yeah, that's the problem with this country.

You don't know the facts about that release. The first volume was released with all the shorts uncut and uncensored, in order of release date. This was big news to fans because Tom and Jerry had a troubled past - all home video versions and even broadcasts over the decades have been censored due to certain scenes considered racist and insensitive (remember when these were made).

They then released a list of episodes coming out in vol. 2 uncut, and included were 2 fan favorites, which were specifically said to have been restored and remastered form original elements. When the set was finally announced, those 2 episodes were dropped because the studio decided they didn't want to release those episodes due to their content, even though episodes on the first set contained content that could be considered just as offensive.

So naturally fans got upset. How would you like it if you bought a tv series and 2 episodes weren't included because they were controversial, after being told they would be included? You wouldn't be upset over that? What makes that any different from Tom and Jerry?

Which brings us to this Friday the 13th release. It seems obvious that Warner shouldn't take all the blame here - I believe they are only able to release what they were given. Did they have access to the original materials from Paramount? What was included in the deal they made? Did Warner have access to the original 3D prints for restoration, and chose not to use them, or did they not have access to those as part of the deal? What about alternate versions of part 1 and 9? I would think that if they bought the rights to the films, that would have included everything, but that may not be the case. Did they know Paramount would be coming back and getting the rights back, leaving them just a limited window? These questions affect why Warner is releasing this set as they are. I can't blame Warner for the lack of true 3D or uncut part 9 if they weren't given access to it by Paramount. But if they had the rights, and just chose not to, then that's a different story.

This is a discussion. I'm asking about how the rights worked for Warner. I'm not complaining - I'm asking questions, see?

I can blame Warner though for the awful packaging. I can deal with bad artwork - lots of releases (not all) have poor artwork. But the cardboard sleeves are a different beast altogether, and people have a right to gripe about that, especially when previous releases of the DVDs in those sleeves ended up with glue issues.

I think it would been real cool for Warner to have used the original poster art from 'The Final Chapter' for the cover art with the hockey mask, knife and blood. Always loved that artwork.

you do realize Jason Goes to Hell has always been one of Warner Bros. titles right? they do in fact have all the materials for that film.

And it has been answered at least twice, by me, but here's the full breakdown of the distribution issues with Friday the 13th.

Warner Brother was given access to the first Friday the 13th films (I-VIII) due to a 3 year US distribution agreement with Paramount Home Entertainment. The deal began January 1, 2013 and end December 31, 2015.

Warner is given access to the pre-existing sources, by Paramount, but Paramount is not investing any additional work into titles. (Thus, Paramount does not have the HD Left Eye/Right Eye master for Part III.)

Warner Brothers controls distribution of Friday the 13, or more specifically "Jason," due to their deal with Sean S Cunningham, who was original producer of the series, and owned the characters. Since Paramount had not been moving on a sequel since Part VIII, Cunningham was allowed to shop the franchise elsewhere, but Paramount kept the copyrighted name of the series, "Friday the 13th." They partnered with New Line/Warner so they could finally use "Friday the 13th" in the title of the 2009 re-boot.

Warner was not moving on the sequel, and they we're really wanting to get into Christopher Nolan's next film, Intersellar. In exchange for getting half the production credit on Intersellar, they gave Paramount a five year window to work with the film franchise. Paramount also fully controls domestic and international distribution of South Park due to this deal. (Warner controlled the movie...) - Franchises are something Paramount desperate for at this point, having lost Marvel and Lucasfilm. All they have are Mission Impossible, Star Trek, GI Joe and maybe, World War Z. (This was part of the reason they bid heavy, and acquired The Terminator...)

So basically:
Friday the 13th Part I to Part 8 - Domestic distribution controlled by Paramount, international distribution controlled by Warner Bros. (Masters are property of Paramount...)

Warner Brothers has domestic distribution of these films until December 31, 2015. (Barring a extension of the deal.)

Jason Goes to Hell; Jason X; Jason vs Freddy and Friday the 13th (2009) - World wide distribution rights are controlled by Warner Brothers, due to new contract with Sean S Cunningham. - Friday the 13th is a co-production with Paramount.

Subsequent Friday the 13th sequels - Warner gave Paramount rights to produce a new Friday the 13th film within the next 5 years. (expires Dec 2017)
