Default The Prey (1984) coming from Arrow

Quote:
“It’s not human, and it’s got an axe! One of the most underrated efforts to hail from the slice-and-dice boom, The Prey at last emerges from the VHS wilderness in a brand new 2K restoration from the recently unearthed original camera negative.

Three young couples set off into the mountains for a weekend of climbing, drinking and lovemaking. But little do they know that they are stumbling into the terrain of a fearsome predator – a wild man, horrifically burned as a child many years ago in a fire which engulfed his gypsy camp and left only him alive. Now he roams the woods in search of his next human prey.

Filmed in 1979-1980 – making it a contemporary, rather than an imitator, of the likes of Friday the 13th – but not released until 1984 when it was picked up by New World Pictures, The Prey is a unique woodsy slasher gem ripe for reappraisal in this extras-packed, 40th anniversary edition!

The Prey is one of my most eagerly-awaited Blu-rays in recent memory. I am practically drooling at the mouth in anticipation.

I rented this movie a time or two during the golden age of VHS, and, although I won't go so far as to say that it's a great movie, something about it really hit the sweet spot with me. I love horror films about characters being stalked and chased in the woods. I loved the scenes of the characters just hiking in the wilderness. I loved the women in their bikinis during the swimming hole scene. I won't spoil the ending for anyone, but I loved it as well.

The extras look great. Both versions of the movie, an interview with Lori Lethin (Bloody Birthday), etc.

The reverse cover art will be my default cover for this when the Blu-ray arrives. I would love to have seen the original VHS cover with the axe, but the reverse cover art is pretty solid.

Arrow only has it listed as a UK-only title on their website, but Diabolik is listing a US release the day after the UK one, as per the usual for US/UK releases. But worth holding onto an iota of skepticism until confirmed by Arrow direct that there's a US release

Have you even looked at Arrow's post? Under the September releases it has the US flag under The Prey, meaning it's getting released in the US.

Never seen it and something tells me it will be pretty b-movie ish, be badly paced and a let down but i've still ordered it. I'am sure the extra's will be interesting.

It's an 80's slasher, so yeah it's B-movie cheese. I've never seen it either but I love slashers, and especially from the 80's. If you're a fan, you pretty much know what to expect from a film like this.

I was just basing it on what was on Arrow website. I did not see their Facebook post. I didn't think Diabolik would post about a US release if there wasn't one, but I also thought it was worth mentioning in case there was a reason it wasn't initially listed as a dual territory release.

I hate when folks on this forum say a cover sucks because it's disparaging to an artist who worked hard and it's all subjective anyway... but Jesus Christ.

I've never seen this, but there's another obscure b-movie horror film called Prey (aka Alien Prey) from the late 70s, that I remember seeing as a kid. Anyone else familiar with that one?

...and my review of the film

I was just revisiting this great Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray last weekend when I watched a few other Norman J. Warren films.

What;s strange about a major retail site listing region codes incorrectly? I suspect that applies to well over 50% of the Arrow items or 85% of Amazon and zavvi items, Is there a sing;e major retailer than is better than coin flip assuming they release a mix of coding ?
