Hong Kong Viy 2: Mystery Of Dragon's Seal: Journey To China (2018) 3D

So we did hear about a sequel, here's the IMDB page for it:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt6218010/

Looks like it might be just called Journey to China: The Mystery of the Iron Mask in some places.

The poster confirms 3D so we should be in for another visual treat. The first Viy was a mixed bag. Great visuals and design work but distracting dubbing (especially the English speaking actors) and a meandering storyline. Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Jackie Chan of all people have joined the cast this time. Jason Flemyng and Charles Dance return from the first movie.

Here's a pic of Jackie and Arnie from the movie:

Arnold and Jackie Chan in the film, interesting. Thanks for the details Levcore. I haven't seen the 1st one, is the 3D worth it?

I have no interest in the first one but this one looks promising. Its a good sign it isn't saying its a sequel on the cover.

The film title has changed (again) to Mystery of Dragon’s Seal: Journey to China.

Wow visually this looks fantastic and very geared towards a 3D experience.

Yes the 3D is absolutely worth it for the first movie. The set design, costumes and visual fx are all amazing even if the story is a bit all over the place. It feels like a cross between Van Helsing and a Guillermo del Toro fantasy with a dash of The Brothers Grimm.

that's good to hear levcore. I ordered the first one a couple weeks ago and I'm praying I've ordered the correct disc with the English dub. seems like it's taking forever to get here.

Somehow I missed this thread when it first started or forgot about it, went ahead and ordered the prequel off Ebay UK from a seller in Germany, I hope I don't find the English dubbing to distracting as has been mentioned.

Hope you both enjoy! The dubbing is distracting especially with English speaking actor Jason Flemyng who is clearly performing his scenes in English yet is dubbed by himself.

Looking forward to it very much now after reading your review of it in the VIY thread.

Trailer looks great! Any idea how much of a wide release this will get? It made my must see list.

The first movie was a great blind buy for me. Very nice PQ and AQ with nice 3D with pop-outs. The story was nice also.

My bet is that this won't get a 2D theatrical release in the US or UK, let alone a 3D one...

Seconded, I'll be amazed if it gets a physical media release in the UK too. Not sure if the first movie even got a dvd here.

It did get a DVD: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Forbidden-K...rbidden+empire

I saw it on sale in Sainsburys, just like Guardians Of The Tomb it just got a crappy worthless 2D DVD in the UK.

Is Guardians of the Tomb that one with Kelsey Grammar and Kellan Lutz about some killer spiders or something? Was that a 3D movie in Asia then? I think I recall seeing the trailer on YouTube a while back.

Well that sucks. Considering it has both Arnold and Jackie Chan, one would likely think this would get some sort of a US (even a UK) release. It would be nice if it at least got a Fathom Events showing.

Ultimately it depends on the quality of the finished film and the attitude of the distributor. I'm sure it will get festival showings but the film just can't get away with the kind of bad dubbing the first one suffered and expect major distribution. Unfortunately Jackie and Arnold are both straight-to-DVD these days, with a fair few of Jackie's recent movies getting 3D conversions in China but never being released on disc - I'm hoping this bucks the trend...

I've never noticed bad or any dubbing problems while watching the first movie. This is news to me. Anyone else have that problem?
