It definitely takes time to find slipcovers for a reasonable price for some old releases but it's honestly kind of fun. For example, I recently found the UHD for Conan with a slipcover for $25 on Ebay when the cheapest price I saw for a copy with a slipcover was $40 for several months. My biggest steal was finding a new copy of the UK release of The Prestige for $22. I basically never blind buy hoping to get a slipcover except for new releases. It helps that some people post that their order from a website came with a slipcover (like Looper from Best Buy, which I bought myself). For old movies I either use Ebay or purchase a slipcover separately from the slipcover thread.

There's always an opportunity to get HTF slips like the Prestige 4K on Ebay when the seller unknowingly sells it for cheap without looking at closed auctions. I already have it w/ slip so I didn't look but recently some seller did a buy it now for like 30 bucks with shipping. Had I seen it, I totally would've bought it and did a flip. The slip looked to be in excellent condition too.
I won't get slips for all films. It really depends on the title. If the film was good or popular and collectors want it.. I would pick it up with slip if possible. |

I briefly had a dream, when I started buying UHD discs, that I would get slips for everything. But it's simply way too expensive to buy everything day one just to get a slipped copy, and I won't pay more than a few dollars for one on the aftermarket. They are just cardboard, after all.
Shit. I just got the UHD disc from Amazon, new, for $5.00 No way in hell I'm paying 16x that for the goddamn slip. |

I put all my slipcovers in storage bins because they get in the way.
I know I had valuable ones in the Blu Ray era and maybe I have some of those rare ones from UHD BD. I really don't see any value in them so I don't think I would be interested in selling them. But I guess I should go look and see if I have the Shallows. I think I do have it and it's cool but it may not be in the right condition for anyone who values such a thing. -Brian |

I had a look through my box of slips and I guess I only thought I had the shallows as I didn't find it for either the blu or the UHD BD. I did find Ghostbusters 1 and 2.
I have been auditing and organizing my movies and I think I may put the slips back on the discs because I have the shelf space. (I can move some of the Blu Rays into the bins. One of my kids wants to inherit the collection so I may as well do my best to keep it in good condition regardless of what it's worth. Basically even if something has a value that doesn't mean it going to be worth while for me to bother selling it because that could be a headache and I could easily see the process as being not worth the trouble. Edit - I put all my UHD slips back on and some of my Blu Ray slips. I took most of the DVDs off the shelfs to go into storage because slip covers take up more room. The only one that really bugs me now is my Scooby Doo 1+2 Best of WB Double Feature slip... it somehow got a 1 inch tear on the bottom front when I was moving a lot of Blu-rays around to reorganize. I have no idea how it happened. It used to be mint, but not anymore ![]() |

All of my 4K’s have slipcovers if they were released with them. My regular Blu-rays I’m not as concerned with the slips.
Some of the more prized ones that I own are The Shallows 4K The Good the Bad and the Ugly 4K Starship Troopers 4K Air Force One 4K Cliffhanger 4K Both Blade Runner 4K’s Life 4K Logan 4K Thor Ragnarok 4K Since I buy things as they come out, it’s easier to stay on top of it. As far as any older titles go, if you’re patient someone will put up something used on eBay for a decent price and you can jump on it. |

I like mine to be in the best shape, sure, but if I'm not buying it the first week then I'm not going to worry about the slipcover after that... even though there's some 4K releases that I couldn't get at the time that I wish I could get slips for. But mostly I've resigned myself to knowing I won't get those. I try to keep a series going if I have slipcovers from the start, but if I get it later then I'm not too concerned. That's what happened with Hunger Games, they came out before I was buying 4K so I knew they'd be long gone so I just waited for decent prices. I ended up getting them around the same time and the 4th had a slipcover but the others didn't so I just took it off and stored it somewhere lol I think the only one at this point I'd try to seek out slipcovers for would be Harry Potter. Unless they re-release them with new ones before I get around to it. ![]() Last edited by kevin87; 04-14-2022 at 08:16 AM. |

It was 40+ a few months after release from what I remember way back when it was highly desirable since launch.

I'd assume with ebay you can have it email you for ones you really want and keep waiting for someone to list it up cheap. |

At the start of the year, I had to move back with parents due to a relationship breakdown and my mental health was terrible.
Whilst I was packing away my Blu-rays, I realised that most of them had slips whereas others (in later years, when I stopped buying them new to save money) hadn't. I was maybe missing 20 in total. Over the last couple of months, I've scoured Amazon, eBay, Marketplace, CeX, you name it, to complete the collection and now I'm 99.9%. Only left with the couple in my signature to find at reasonable prices. Oddly, that hobby really helped with my mental state. It was the first time I felt happy since once I had crossed off the elusive ones. |

Having said that, I do hunt down other things that I'm looking for and I enjoy the hunt when it comes with the satisfaction of getting what I was looking for. I would only pay retail for something. I don't pay the inflated prices of Ebay. If I can't find it, I didn't need it that bad. |

Is it just me but does anyone also feel that once they have the slip, they also feel as though they have the movie? Even if it's the slip only? I feel as though I could always pick up the actual movies for much less unless they're OOP. Picked up a number of slips from another seller of movies who doesn't care about slips. I did get a couple 4K slips that were more in demand but not the holy grail ones. Can't wait till Black Friday so that I can fill them out. I got a fair amount of blu-ray slips. Thinking up putting them for sale here to avoid Ebay fees.

Ten months later and I'm revisiting my own thread. Haven't started selling off any of my slips yet, but I have started selling off my record collection. I'm trying to cut down on my "collecting habits." I can never seem to buy just one of something. It always becomes a collection. I think if I can sell my records, I can sell my slipcovers..
