Disney+ added the television anime of Tomihiko Morimi's Tatami Time Machine Blues (Yojō-Han Time Machine Blues) novel to its U.S. program listings. The anime's complete first season will start streaming on November 9.

The anime launched on Disney+ in Japan on September 14. Disney+ Hotstar also began streaming the anime in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia Singapore and Thailand in September.

The anime series have a total of five episodes, and an original sixth episode streamed exclusively on Disney+. The sixth episode features an original story not in the novel, and footage that is not included in the anime's theatrical compilation film version.

The Walt Disney Company exclusively streamed the anime globally, and the theatrical compilation film version started its limited three-week run on September 30.

Tatami Time Machine Blues is a sequel to Morimi's earlier The Tatami Galaxy (Yojō-Han Shinwa Taikei) novel. It shipped in July 2020, 16 years after the original novel. The novel is inspired by Makoto Ueda's Summer Time Machine Blues stage play. Morimi wrote the novel, and Ueda, Morimi's friend, is credited with the original concept. The sequel novel combines elements of the stage play's story with the characters from Morimi's novel. Nakamura returned to illustrate the cover.

In the sequel novel's story, The Tatami Galaxy protagonist's trouble-making friend Ozu gets the student apartments' only air conditioner remote control wet, breaking it on a certain midsummer day. The students wonder what to do about the situation for the remainder of the summer and make a plan with Akashi. An unstylish male student from 25 years in the future arrives in a time machine. The protagonist travels back in time to try to retrieve the remote control before it is broken.

Shingo Natsume (One-Punch Man, Space Dandy, Sonny Boy) directed the anime at Science SARU, and Makoto Ueda returned as scriptwriter from The Tatami Galaxy. Yūsuke Nakamura also returned as character designer.

Ohta Publishing released Morimi's The Tatami Galaxy novel in 2005, with Nakamura illustrating the cover. The novel inspired an 11-episode anime by Masaaki Yuasa in April 2010.

HarperCollins' HarperVia imprint will publish The Tatami Galaxy novel on December 6. The release will be followed with the sequel novel Tatami Time Machine Blues in summer of 2023. Emily Balistrieri is translating both novels. Balistrieri previously translated Morimi's The Night is Young, Walk on Girl novel, which inspired a 2017 anime film also directed by Masaaki Yuasa off a screenplay by Ueda.

Dragon Quest The Adventure Of Dai Gets An English Dub From The Ocean Group After Previously Being Denied An Union Dub From SAG-AFTRA.

Quote:
Toei Animation announced on Friday that the new anime of Riku Sanjō and Kōji Inada's Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai (Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken) manga will get an English dub that will premiere "soon" on digital platforms. The company streamed an English-dubbed clip.

The anime premiered in October 2020. Crunchyroll and Hulu are streaming the anime as it airs. The anime's 100th and final episode airs on Saturday.

The show went on hiatus after the Toei Animation hack in early March, and aired its first new episode in six weeks on April 16.

Kazuya Karasawa (Dragon Ball Super episode director, Dragon Ball Super: Broly storyboards) is serving as series director at Toei Animation. Katsuhiko Chiba (Rune Soldier, Baby Steps, Tiger Mask W) is supervising the series' scripts. Emiko Miyamoto (Maho Girls Precure!) is designing the characters. Ayaka Fujii (Studio Pablo) is the art director. Yuki Hayashi is composing the music. Aya Mori is in charge of color design. Dragon Quest series director Yuji Horii is credited for supervising the original manga. Toei Animation is producing the anime, which is a hybrid of CG and 2D animation.

Maki Terashima-Furuta Hints At Toonami Originals Will Focus More On Horror Anime

Quote:
In comparison to Shonen franchises and romantic comedies, the horror genre is represented quite sparsely in the medium. While Junji Ito, who many consider the major master of horror within the anime world, has two new anime adaptations on the horizon in Toonami's Uzumaki and Netflix's Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, there might be more horror anime set to arrive in the future. In talking with Housing Complex C producer, Maki Terashima-Furuta, who is also the producer of Uzumaki, the creator spilled the beans that the Cartoon Network programming block is looking to focus more on the horror genre in the future with its anime originals.

Housing Complex C is a series that isn't based on a manga and/or light novel series, instead, creating an original series that plays on the themes presented by H.P. Lovecraft, which would typically venture into cosmic horror and scares that could be incomprehensible. In discussing the origins of how the series originated from both Toonami and Studio Akatsuki, Terashima-Furuta hinted that conversations were underway to focus more on chills and thrills within the medium:

"Jason DeMarco and I have been talking about starting a horror anime genre on Toonami and so with Uzumaki being delayed, we created Housing Complex C as a placeholder. I had worked with Studio Akatsuki before and they did such a brilliant job that I decided we could start something together. I was looking for an original idea that was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft as the author has so many fans worldwide, and let Akatsuki run wild with it."

The producer of Housing Complex C also took the opportunity to discuss how the success of the current spooky series, and the upcoming Junji Ito adaptation, will play a heavy role in their decision to move forward in giving anime fans some scares in a medium that is often bereft of terrifying shows and movies:

"Horror is something that everybody loves. There haven't been that many horror anime, whether it is original horror or horror based on the works of Junji Ito or Kazuo Umezu, there are a lot of horror mangakas in Japan that I would love to see their stories made into anime. We'll see how Uzumaki ultimately does, but Housing Complex C is doing very well. I was shocked by the overwhelmingly positive reactions to it and we're sure Uzumaki will be a huge hit. It looks amazing and it will blow peoples' minds as we've put in so much work into it. I'm happy to explore more into the horror world of anime."

Housing Complex C's finale airs on Cartoon Network on October 23rd at midnight.

Tatami Time Machine Blues Follows Black Rock Shooter To Hulu Rather Than Disney+ In The U.S.

Quote:
Hulu revealed on Tuesday that it will begin streaming the complete first season of the television anime of Tomihiko Morimi's Tatami Time Machine Blues (Yojō-Han Time Machine Blues) novel on Wednesday.

Disney+ had previously listed last month that it would also stream the anime's complete first season in the U.S. on Wednesday. However, the company's website has since updated its U.S. listings, and they no longer include Tatami Time Machine Blues.

The anime launched on Disney+ in Japan on September 14. Disney+ Hotstar also began streaming the anime in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia Singapore and Thailand in September.

Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! 2nd Opening Song's Sales Halted
Hidekazu Tanaka removed from Pokémon credits, concert setlists after arrest

The official website for virutal YouTuber Kano announced on Sunday that the release of the opening theme song "Ichigo Ichie Celebration" (Once-in-a-Lifetime Celebration)" for the second season of the Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! television anime has been canceled due to "various reasons." The original song by Kano and Uzaki-chan (as voiced by her voice actress Naomi Ōzora) and a version performed by virtual YouTuber singing unit MKLNtic were scheduled to debut on November 30. The second season's ending theme song "Happy Life" by MKLNtic was originally set to debut alongside the opening theme as part of a bundled release, but it will now launch on its own on November 30.

Hidekazu Tanaka, who was recently arrested for attempted forcible indecency, composed and arranged the theme song.

In related news, the Pokémon Journeys: The Series anime's opening sequence for the theme song "1・2・3" has removed Tanaka's music arrangement credit in recent episodes. In addition, voice actress and performer Momo Asakura's live "Piacere!" tour has removed her song "Day and night dream" ("Shiroku Jichūmu"), which Tanaka composed, from the concert setlists.

Police arrested 35-year-old game and anime composer Tanaka in Tokyo on October 24 on the charge of attempted forcible indecency — a Japanese legal term which includes sexual assault. NHK reported that Tanaka had allegedly uttered obscene words at a teenage girl and forcibly took her hand at a train station's bicycle parking area in Tokyo's Meguro ward in August.

According to police, the girl reported the incident at a nearby neighborhood police outpost. Police then reportedly found footage from the station's security camera of a person following the girl.

Tanaka has composed numerous songs and soundtracks for anime and videogames during his career, most of it spent at the music production company MONACA. During his 10 years at MONACA, Tanaka composed music and songs for such anime as Nyaruko: Crawling with Love!, Aikatsu!, Servant × Service, THE IDOLM@STER MOVIE: Kagayaki no Mukōgawa e!, The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls, Sword Oratoria: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? On the Side, Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu, and Idoly Pride. He left MONACA at end of July 2021.

He is perhaps best known for composing the first opening song "Star!!" for The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls anime, as well as composing the anime's soundtrack. He also composed and arranged many of the songs in the larger The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls franchise. More recently, he is credited as the composer for the second and fourth versions of the opening song "1・2・3" for the Pokémon Journeys: The Series anime, and composed the opening song "Ichigo Ichie Celebration" for the second season of the Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! anime. He composed the ending song "Calendar Girl" for the Aikatsu! anime.

The Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! anime's second season premiered on October 1. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime as it airs in Japan.

Entertainment planning company Isaribi announced on Friday that the upcoming anime project for virtual YouTuber (VTuber) Kizuna Ai is titled Kizuna no Allele, and will premiere as a television anime in 2023. Kizuna Ai's original character designer En Morikura drew the below visual (first image below) for the anime, and Isaribi also unveiled a screenshot from the anime (second image).

The Kizuna Ai YouTube channel "A.I.Channel" first launched in 2016. Since then, she has become the world's most iconic virtual YouTuber and was on Newsweek Japan's list of "globally respected Japanese people." Her main channel has over 3 million subscribers, and her "A.I.Games" channel has over 1.51 million subscribers. She has since appeared in television programs and commercials, and performed as a musical artist.

In April 2020, Nozomi Kasuga signed on as an adviser at Kizuna Ai Co., Ltd. — thus formally confirming that she is the voice actress behind the character. The company was formed out of Activ8, the talent agency that managed Kizuna Ai and other virtual YouTuber talent.

Kizuna Ai voiced cameo roles in the Ingress and Magical Girl Site anime, and she also performed the theme song in the Laidbackers movie.

Kizuna Ai's staff billed the "Kizuna Ai The Last Live 'hello, world 2022'" concert on February 26 as her final concert before she goes on an indefinite hiatus. The staff cited an update to "future activities with the goal of further developing Kizuna Ai" as the reason for the hiatus. The concert also unveiled Kizuna (#KZN), an original singing CeVIO AI. #KZN is "serving as a hub to connect with everyone and [support] Kizuna Ai and creators while she is asleep." (CeVIO is a suite of software that includes voice synthesis.) Kizuna Ai's original character designer En Morikura designed the AI with character concept art by Keigo Inoue.

There is that possibility that those titles will just end up on Hulu in the U.S. like Black Rock Shooter, Bleach and Tatami Time Machine Blues while other countries get them on Disney+.
