I think you're confusing the fancy 3-disc Collector's Edition w/ bonus disc (US release date: November 2020) with the standard 2-disc version from last month.

Whereas both the UK and Japanese discs are region free, so it's odd that the US one is the only one locked. Rules out the theory that it was a mistake.

So once and for all, which is the best 4K UHD version that doesn't have Edge Enhancement, altered color/contrast, and has good HDR? I have the JP 4K release, the HDR is great and all, but after getting my first OLED, I rather not have EE on it anymore.

US/UK/AU BD

Has better quality English subtitles than any other release. It also has Canadian-French subtitles of apparently bad quality.

1080p BD. The UHD upscale is not great in my opinion.

The US/UK/AU BDs are content-wise the same except for the region coding, so you should get the region B UK release.

Just watched the shout CE 4K UHD yesterday and it hard locked at 1:17:43. Rewinded multiple times and could not advance past that point.

In terms of movie I felt this one was weaker than both Suzume and your name.

When I recently watched the UK BD with Japanese audio enabled, there was a short loading stutter when the film jumps to the Japanese end credits video via branching. Doesn't occur with English audio. Checked on a PS3 and an old LG player.

It's not a huge issue since the loading does not occur again when you jump through different chapters and then return to the end credits. The solution is just to skip to the end credits, let the stutter happen, return to the start and watch the film like normal.

I wonder if this also occurs on the GKIDS pressing.

It does. Probably due to some oddity of how it was seamlessly branched.
