The order I placed with Sanity back in July is enroute to the UK. I'm really looking forward to seeing this in glorious HD.

Just saw this on twitter: Yes, under the eye of director Andrew Dominik, Chopper has been digitally remastered from the original 35mm print with 5.1 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack; and is available on Blu-ray for the first time ever.

If that helps with anything.

Well the screens are in the post above yours, can’t really argue with them. The source may be 35mm but they’ve sure done a bit too much work to it if that’s the case.

They must have been using Peter Jackson's team and recycled the same settings they used on LOTR's 4K upscale

Watching this now, looks to me like this could have been a very good release if not for the very, very hard hit of the DNR stick.

Fine details appears to be good underneath the DNR, on things like hair, fabric and fences. I can’t tell how much of the colour timing is intentional or not as I haven’t seen the film before. Blacks look crushed at points but I can’t tell how much of that is intentional if any.

Audio is very good as well.

Just a shame this has been heavily denoised. It does at points look like there’s grain and detail improves, especially later in the film. That could however just be me getting used to the DNR.

Also has anyone mentioned yet the new screen of text before the credits?

It reads
“Mark Brandon Read died in 2013 aged 58z
He is survived by his sons Charlie and Roy and wife Margaret.
He remains one of Australia’s best-selling authors.”

Remastered from 35mm... to look like HD videotape circa 2006

So the transfer has been butchered and none of the extras are new either!(I've seen them all on dvd and youtube before)

I paid more than what I usually spend on a 4K blu ray for this and I'll no doubt buy any future unbutchered version that may come up because of my love for the film but it's just so disappointing after what we were promised!!

I'd seen a lot of clips from it before and always wanted to see it, but couldn't be bothered with the old poor DVD, and thought "a blu-ray will come out eventually".

Took a hell of a lot longer than I expected it to.

I was very disappointed in the extras. The actual extras themselves were alright, but the promotion leading up to the release of "never before seen bonus footage" was blatantly false, and as I check now, missing from the final packaging.

The Blu-ray was delivered to me yesterday after preordering it months ago and I watched it. And yes, I noticed the new text at the end before the credits roll.

They must have cranked the DNR settings to the max. I can't make out any grain whatsoever. Why do they do this!? Very disappointing. Andrew Dominic oversaw the transfer and should know better. DO NOT use DNR! There are a tonne of Blu-rays out there that don't use DNR and look impeccable, Aliens and The Graduate come to mind.

I tweeted to Madman letting them know how disappointed I was about their excessive use of DNR. Hopefully they wont do it again.

Aliens on BD is actually heavily DNR'd, all the grain on the BD is a digital overlay that was added after the process. They did a pretty damn good job on it though.

There were a few scenes later in the film in which I could make out some grain and looked better than the first half of the scene, but for the most part yeah its smooth as can be. ESPECIALLY the prison scenes.

That's really interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I had no idea. I just read up on it then.

I watched it recently and it was very grainy so I have no idea what kind of process it must have gone through when James Cameron says, "We went in and we completely de-noised and de-grained it, up-rezzed it, ..."

My copy hasn't arrived yet. I'm still excited for it, even though the word on the street is that it was D.N.R.ed to death. I agree with whoever said that Andrew Dominik should have known better.

I think that Aliens looks pretty good. I've seen it many times on Blu-ray and I never thought that it was shite. The worst D.N.R. jobs came from Universal -- especially their back-catalog releases. SO MANY of their releases were scrubbed and smoothed beyond recognition. Their recent 4Ks show that they have learned their lesson....
