I find a lot of different answers, 13 and 14 year olds claim that they can do 50 or even more push ups within a minute.

I can do only 40 full push-ups and I've been exercising to do this for months.
So 40 full, good push-up straight, without breaks.

Is this good/normal?

I can hardly believe that the average is 30 or 40. That just can't be right. I am almost sure that the average 19 year old male is unable to do 40 straight push-ups, but maybe I am wrong and underestimating.

I can do zero! I am a female, and I dont try very hard lol...but yea....thats that

I ran 8 miles today, beating my best distance by 3 miles! I'm working towards running a 10K and maybe one day, a 1/2 marathon! I am down 82 lbs now, 206 from 288 since the end of January....

Is 206 a lot or is that skinny?

I was 288 lbs at the end of January 2013....I went from a XXL shirt to a Large and a size 42 waist to a size 34. I went from a size 50 suit to a size 43 slim fit. So I would say I'm pretty fit at this point. I exercise 4-5 times a week.

Well, 8 miles already exceeds a 10K which is ~6.2 miles. Best now is to work on time.

40 pushups means that you're golden by the standards of the majority. I read in Men's Health several years ago that 27 is the average.

I was able to do 50 back in the fall, but I've lost some fitness since then.

Yes, I would like to do the 6.2+ miles a couple more times on my own, like I did the 3.1 miles, before I run an official 10K. Then I will work on the half marathon distance for sometime next year.

I'm pretty proud of myself! today I hit 85 pounds of total weight loss.

This was me just after riding the Maid of the Mist in Niagara Falls a couple of years back.

This picture was taken a few weeks ago at a Cleveland Indians game.

Nice work! You look like a different person! Much younger too! Are you at your goal weight yet? I have hit 82 lbs of weight loss and feel like I am pretty much there....if I lose a pound or two more, that's fine.

40 is fine man.. I can tell you that there were quite a few young men who couldn't do that at the beginning of basic training in the military. 71 isn't too heavy but 40 is very decent.

EDIT: just tried myself - 40 as well without breaks. I am 23, weight around 77 and I work out 2-3 times a week.. Maybe I could do a few more if I would pause between every ten..

Thank you! I'm not quite at my goal weight, but I'm getting close. I want to be somewhere between 155-160 lbs, and I'm currently sitting at about 176 lbs.

And congratulations to you as well!

Finished my second 5k on Saturday. Good times.

I jog (and power walk) 5/7 seven days a week. Typically 6:30-7:30 or shortly after. I find morning jogs work best and the perfect way to begin each day.

I can't really confirm losing a substantial amount of weight as a result but I'm sure I'm down roughly 8lbs. I really don't jog to necessarily lose weight but to maintain a specific weight which I feel content with.

I'm 40 now and run an average of around 16 miles a week. Luckily, I love running and that has kept my weight down. I've weighed the same, around 175, for the last 20 years. That's mostly because I exercise quite a bit and my job requires it.

The most I've ran is a half marathon and boy does that take some training. I do a 5k three times a week and run a 7.3 mile perimeter run every Saturday. If anyone that wants to get into running, I can offer some tips:

- Drink plenty of water, especially if you're going long distances. I usually down about 2 to 3 bottles before my Saturday long run.
- Don't drink energy drinks before a run...it will suck.
- Don't eat sugary foods before a run, like cookies and Mountain Dew. You will thank me.
- Work toward a goal. If you want to run a 5k, train for it. Start out with just a mile and keep adding.
- It's never too late to start running. I became an avid runner in my mid-30s, and hated running before hand. Now I love it, and it keeps the weight off.
- Run to music that you love...it really helps.

Thanks for the advice! I just ran my first official 5K after running the distance a number of times. I am training for a 10K now and hopefully a 1/2 marathon one day. I ran 8 miles this past Saturday, which was my longest run by far. I am 43 and just started running a couple of months ago.

155 for 5'8" is not a lot.

I'm 5'6" and weight about 160-165. As the fat comes off and the muscle is added, my weight creeps up. I've been maintaining about 161-163 for the past month. I have not been able to do any significant exercise except walking the dog and even that is tough some days. It is getting easier as my hand heals, but the jarring of walking still causes some pain in my hand.

I still have about 8 more weeks of physical therapy and maybe I will officially be permitted to jog in the next 4 weeks. I'm just getting real antsy to get out and do stuff.

P.S. Don't base your target weight on the BMI charts, they are never accurate.
