Same goes for a lot of Sony and Fox titles which have better audio specs on the UHD, although in those cases it's not as much of an upgrade as, say, Dolby Digital to Atmos.
Thanks for responding, I appreciate it!

Yeah my audio setup is lossless-capable. I'm very happy to hear that its an improvement. I had forgotten how many Blurays have horrible (lossy) audio...The Last Samurai, Terminator 3, Trading Places, The Aviator, Sleepy Hollow, Mission Impossible 1-3 just to name a few. Looking forward to those movies getting a 4K release, those who haven't gotten one yet.

A while back Best Buy sold a Magnavox bare bones 4K for $50 as a deal of the day

Man I love my Philips player. Itís funny, I always hear people on here talking about their expensive Oppo, Sony, and Panasonic players breaking down and/or having problems playing certain discs, and meanwhile my little Philips is still chugging along perfectly after several years, and has never had a single problem playing any disc Iíve ever thrown at it.

I have a 4K TV, but no player yet. I, too, am waiting for a drop in the price of a player. I did buy these "essential" 4K titles this weekend with the hope of eventually picking up a player:
  • 2001: A Space Odyssey 4K
  • Alien 4K (40th Anniversary Edition) (1979)
  • Apocalypse Now 4K (Final Cut | 40th Anniversary Edition) (1979)
  • Blade Runner (Final Cut) 4K
  • Black Hawk Down 4K (2001)
  • Close Encounters of the Third Kind 4K
  • The Dark Knight 4K (2008)
  • The Shining 4K (1980)
  • The Wizard of Oz 4K (80th Anniversary Edition) (1939)

I also bought these, but don't know if I'm gonna keep or return them:
  • Ex Machina 4K (2015)
  • First Man 4K (2018)
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 4K (2017)
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum 4K (2019)
  • John Wick 4K (2014)
  • The Matrix 4K (1999)
  • Ready Player One 4K (2018)

Since standard Blu-rays look so good on my setup, I've not been in any hurry to update the television or player, but I know that it's just a matter of time before my player or my television start to die.
You can get a UHD player and it will play the 4K discs. You should get the 4K benefit. Just no HDR. It should work for you. I'm not sure what you mean by the "right HDMI hookup" though. I have an LG UHD player that I got on the cheap. Works great and I'm able to play 4K discs on a 1080P display...

My ancient Magnavox Blu-Ray player - my first player, in the $100 range - that I got back in 2008 or so, is still smacking ass and takes every BD disc I throw at it, unlike my Sony and Samsung players.

I'm not 4k ready but I buy them, really good bargains and you get the blu-ray disc included so it's a no-brainer.

Well, if Terminator 3 somehow never gets a UHD, there's always the Sony BD version from the UK, which is an AVC encode with TrueHD audio. The Last Samurai has some lossless releases in South America and Asia, but surely Warners will at least get that one onto UHD at some point.

I've bought a few, but I really have no plans on getting a 4K tv at the moment.

Did the same and only bought essentials for probably over a year. But now titles are starting to show up in used shops and I've found a few for as cheap as like $3-5. And found a bunch of Marvel titles for like $5-7 yesterday, even though I'm only mildly a fan of most of them. And I'm not sure if animated Disney will be much of an improvement and so I've been pretty selective and getting them at used places as well.
