I saw that on a calibrated set they seem to stay consistently over 1000 nits in multiple tests, and full screen manages to be over 200 nits, again in multiple tests. This is insane. |

But keep in mind those types of features and tech will be reserved for the higher up models. Lower models will be without heatsinks and advanced evo panels. |

Professional calibrator Dnice has the 55" A90J right now and is running his tests. Gonna have sold answers soon.
So far the really big surprise of the night is that Sony has implemented a new tone mapping option to flip through with hdr10. -Brightness Preferred -Gradients Preferred -Off. This should help alleviate the biggest complaint about the Sony Oleds: hdr10 had very dark tone mapping. |

I supplied D-Nice with his 55" A90J from Sony's first allocation.
D-Nice helped me run our TV Shootout Evaluation for 7 of our 17 years hosting our annual premium TV evaluation events. |

I'm watching the (83") A90J with great interest.
This could be the first TV worth it to replace my 75Z9D. |

I've only seen prototypes ^^ as my delivery is delayed.
We shipped many of our 55A90J orders from Sony's 1st allocation that arrived in TX, but the east and west coast shipments are delayed and now expected to arrive Friday March 12th. |

55 inches arrive on the 12th? What about 65, are they equally delayed?

We actually shipped our first 65A90Js today. Supply is very limited and more small shipments arrive every week.

Couple of updates from D-Nice over at AVS:
"Im currently watching Altered Carbon on my A9G and A90J. Not surprising to me, but DoVi Bright on the A9G equals DoVi Dark on the A90J— fully calibrated of course. Specular highlights are the same between these units in said modes so measured nits do not show improvement with this content in this specific picture mode setup. No desaturated colors on the A9G compared to the A90J (so much for that <enter colorful adjective here> Youtuber’s video comparison ![]() For nit lovers, you can use DoVi Bright with the HDR Tone Mapping setting on Brightness Preferred. You will see a visible improvement in APL and specular highlights brightness. I’ll throughly test that configuration tomorrow to see if colors become desaturated— visually and measured. DoVi Dark— I get perfect EOTF tracking and grayscale after actually calibrating DoVi Dark on the A90J. Posterization in DoVi Dark on the A90J is identical between my A9G and A90J— almost non existent. Elevated blacks were seen on the Netflix intro a couple of times. However, I think I had the HDMI port on the A90J misconfigured. I will be looking at more content to verify if elevated blacks exist or not. Settings and calibration reports will be posted tomorrow. Time to rest." The new brightness tone mapping is interesting. It can be used on both HDR10 and also Dolby Vision, as well as on ALL picture modes. Works similar to the dynamic tone mapping option found on the LG Oled tvs. |

So it sounds like the calibrated numbers from D-Nice are more towards the 800 nits region. That's quite excellent if the colors stay as accurate as I suspect they do from Sony. I'd like to see second opinions cause D-Nice has rated other sets lower than most other reviewers. Won't be surprised if some review finds the post calibration A90J to be in the 900+ range still. At any rate this is going to be the OLED to beat going forward.

D-Nice also reporting 175 nits post calibration 100% window / full field white. Pannys had been reported to do about 150 nits with last years models.
Overall may not be the 1000+ nits previously reported but still strong then previous years models and brands. |

Panel variance. The Chinese was also a 65 so maybe the sizes differ a little. Dnice has a 2nd unit on the way to compare. Robert is that coming from you and is a 55/65? |
