And nowadays, cost of gear doesn't really equal quality of sound. I have one of those JDS Labs Atom head amps, thing can power any of my cans without a hitch, and sounds great, all for $99. I paired it with a Topping D50 DAC I had , sits on my desk, takes up next to no space.
Yep...closed woods cups. I like the HD58X, but out of everything I have it's really my least favorite. I also like modding/tinkering, unique things, and wood...so when found out about these wood cups I just had to try them. Will be about a month before I get the cups.

Really like the Gustard H10 amps I got, and they were only $280 from Massdrop. Paired with an Audioquest DFR DAC/amp it's a great sub $500 DAC and amp setup that beautifully drives TH-X00s.

And congrats on the Ebony! If you want to further improve the TH-X00, get the Lawton D.I.Y Tune up damping kit (should be ~$35 if you ask for only the driver housing pieces). Stock TH-X00 sounds slightly muffled and conjested in comparison to a damped one, and you gain slightly better extension, detail, and clarity, along with noticeably better separation and a more open sound - koover will 100% agree with this. It's the best thing you can do for a TH-X00 to improve it, and doesn't cost too much. Second best thing is changing pads, but that's a whole lot more personal preference orientated. Any questions you have on the TH-X00 koover and I can give our views and suggestions.

Lots of options. I like their work.
I hope they can eventually bring out the Sennheiser HE-6X they proposed a while back.... could always use another electrostat, especially if it could be sub $1k!

Massdrop is awesome!
I hate them!
I rarely look at the site, because I could easily spend $4k on crap I don't need, just because I wonder what it sounds like lol

Oh! Meze 99 is nice. A little sparkly in the treble however mild EQ has them sounding great.

Definitely my best Massdrop purchase.

Have you swapped pads yet? Mine came with 2 pair, but have only used the set that came on the cans, since it sounds good to me already.

My impressions on the Verite (finally). Some of the editing is a little wonky, and my cameras now record at different color settings. I tried to salvage it, though. Enjoy, I guess (?).

Gotta love that a puppet with a head stuffed with cotton can sound more articulate and knowledgeable than Z reviews, lol.

No I haven't switched the pads. I've found the fitted ones really nice.
Is there a difference between the pads? I just thought they were spares.

I exclusively listened to them this weekend. They sound 95% as good as my big rig. Its really shocking how good these are.
A old phone and these HP's should be know where near the big rig.

I noticed they have the same connection as the AQ NightHawks. So I should be able to connect a balanced cable as well and try on the V281.

I was really intrigued to hear your thoughts on these. I canít recommend these anymore then I have for the past 2 years. I have the original 99 classics and to this day, theyíre still one of my favorite headphones..... and I own a few that are triple the price. Iíve traded one HP after another but the 1 constant is the 99
Classics. Iíll NEVER get rid of these. Iím so glad you like them
Man!

I ordered a second pair yesterday. A guy at work took mine. He listened for 5 minutes and said I wasn't going to get them back. I haven't.

Taken from the discussion page on Massdrop, might give some insight to the different pads:

I haven't swapped pads yet either.

Interesting. I will give the other pads ago at some stage.
Unfortunately it won't be for a while. As my co-worker has taken mine and not giving them back. Hence the second purchase.

Listening to Aeon flow tonight + Woo WA22. Glorious.

Too funny. Youíre a good man for not pushing the situation on getting them back. How long before you get your 2nd pair? Enjoy when you finally get them brother!

1st pair took a few weeks. Second pair will take about the same and have been dispatched.

It's all okay. It can wait. I have plenty to play with.

I just like that my co-worker liked them. He did throw me the $$'s I paid for them and said mine now.

My second set of Meze 99 Noirs turned up last week.
These are too good for the price, They should not be this good.

They are making me feel silly for all my other gear.
