Came today, definitely a cardboard slip.

OK, the Paramount releases appear to be out... my local JB only had 3 (1 copy of Iron Man, 1 copy of Transformers and 1 copy of Transformers 2)

These are much thinner than the previous metal slips:

No embossing, just flat... given there were only 3 and I bought nil, don't think I am going to bother with these releases...

Well, there we go. That settles that then. I thought those images looked more square than the slips Uni and Paramount have done before.

These look to be the same as the ones Sony put on a lot of their DVDs about a year back. Very thin, average print quality and not particularly impressive.

This year has been pretty lean for quality collectable releases like SteelBooks etc. Unfortunately instead of being a bright spot it looks like these will be another case where the potential was there but just not realised.

No way are these worth basically double the price of the standard editions with the same content.

what the hell?! Why are they different? What's the goal, don't they see the success of the original metal slips... fools they are

Hmm, what an interesting development. I wonder if this means we've seen the end of the original-style Metal Slips?

I might get flamed but I think they look like crap. Completely pointless - the same artwork, ratings logos, all the standard text and the blue banner = waste of time. Add that they're thin as and they've got that really poor fold-over bit on the metal flap on the top and bottom.

Probably the most un-special special packaging I've ever seen. Somehow it manages to look worse than a standard Amaray and for someone that goes for collectible packaging it's a poor statement on the appeal of these when I'd actually choose the regular edition over it.

Thank God I went with the Iron Man SteelBook.

Would these be worth keeping just for collecting purposes? Overtime will their value increase? Or should I just refund them? Cheers.

^ No one's running out and getting them and there aren't pictures floating around with "hey, look what I just picked up!!!!!" attached. I think you can take the silence as a very good sign that these have been poorly received and will therefore not be particularly valuable in the future. Maybe someone might think they're worth something when they're not readily available in the future but it's not like they're as impressive as any of the other collectible options so these might die a quick death.

Here's hoping that's the case and Paramount realises they either stick to real metal slips (with NO ratings logos next time) or SteelBooks.

Yer, good point. So do you think I should return them?

Well personally if you bought up stacks thinking you were going to make some coin I doubt it's going to happen...
