Soundfield is awful. Instead of sounding like you are in a stadium with an artist it sound like you are in a different country 10,000,000 miles from the stage.

I have yet to find a HiFiMan headphone I can say I really like a lot, maybe the HE-6se, but they need ungodly amounts of power to sound good. Luckily the iCan Pro is up to the task.

So far have tried the HE-400i, HE-4xx, HE-560, HE-5se and HE-6se. Not sure anything like the Ananda or HE-1000 variants would be much better than those I've tried.

One set of cans I do find to be great so far are the Focal Elear, just a fun pair of headphones, kinda like them even more than the Clears.

Just wanted to stop in and say HELLO to all of you. (Yes, I'm still alive and well). I haven't changed anything in my HP rig, and sadly haven't been listening to it of late.

I powered up my little WA6 the other night and really wanted to listen to "The Division Bell" on my Shure hp's, but alas, it didn't happen. I zonked out on the sofa while watching a long movie and when I woke up it was just too darn late to start a listening session. It's really a pity too since the amp was glowing beautifully and was so warm and ready on a cold winters night.

Hope everyone is well, Happy and Healthy.

Doing fine. My country has been in lockdown for the past three weeks.
And I mean lockdown. Military check points everywhere.

So Lots of HP listening.

Awesome, at least the lots of listening part. I wish our country was smart enough to do that.

Listening has been great. I can't fault my HP rig. Everything sounds great for hours and hours on end. I did a 8 hour tube session the other day.

I've decided my HP rig is over. So I've gone back to some HT tweaks.
I'm trying to eliminate room rattle. Probably shouldn't have installed 3 bloody big subs in the room.

Wish I could say that, lol. Still have the RME ADI-2 DAC and Little Dot MkIII amp, but sold my iFi Pro iCan, and a bunch of DACs and headphones. But I did pick up a Monoprice THX headphone amp, and a pair of Drop's version of the Aeon Open, great set of cans.

Aeon Open is my HP. Just can't get enough of it.

Owned LCD3, LCD-X, Ether Flow and Aeon Open at half the price becomes my HP. Go Figure.

More money doesn't always mean more quality of sound.

Totally agree. My favourite HP's have been in the mid-range market.

Some of my favourite tubes have been considered low end. Some are very high end but my power tubes are cheap and I like them.

DAC is the only area I think the more you pay the more you get.

I've been reducing as well... no more e-stat setup for me, sold off my L300 Limiteds and the SRD-7 transformer, and have the Kaldas RR1 up for sale. I'm completely satisfied with my HP setup - RME ADI-2 DAC -> Schiit Loki -> Garage 1217 amps (Project Ember & Project Polaris). Basically just use my TH-X00 Purplehearts, Koss Porta Pro's, and custom closedback HD58Xs (for gaming/movies)...everything else is in the process of being gotten rid of. All 2 channel now... just my RTi-A5s as mains and headphones. Much prefer gaming in headphones, COD MW Warzone has pretty nice sound design... using Windows Sonic and the Theater DSP configuration in COD audio menu its more immersive than any movie could be... insane directionality of rounds coming at you and if a helicopter is in the area just sounds so incredibly there with physical presence that exactly triggers the feeling a real helicopter is at a given position hovering overhead. I have to say the main reason I play COD MW Warzone with some friends is just for the sound experience... absolutely brilliant sound design in it.

My headphone setup in 'Final Form'... enjoying Joe's latest CD album...

Cool, Satch's new album.
He's one of my all-time favorite musicians, but I found his last couple releases to be rather pedestrian. I still enjoy them, though.
I'm doing fine. Haven't been working much the last 5 weeks, and I'm not allowed to go out in public unless it's to order food to go.
I've been watching Star Trek. Finished TNG, and DS9. Now I'm on season 5 of Voyager (which I never watched before).
Not doing much headphone listening, but I have been rewiring my guitars, reading books, and cooking a heck of a lot.

Hope you all are well.

Like your Avatar didn't give away you kinda like Satch...

Satriani is getting older, body not the same at 63 like it is in your 20's and 30's... he's adapting pretty good and exploring new melodic and expressive avenues in his music. I do like his stuff from his self titled album, 'Engines of Creation'/'Additional Creations', and 'Strange Beautiful Music' probably the most so far though. Only one song in the latest 'Shapeshifting' album I don't like, and it's not really the song itself, but how it was mastered... noticeable high-frequency static distortion that doesn't belong and really is at odds with the music.

Been to three of his concerts and they were all very enjoyable... his Phoenix concert in 2000 was probably my second favorite concert I've been to - interesting stage setup (round, rotating stage - like a big lazy susan...), front row seat, and got to meet him afterwards.

Casey, any plans to do more videos?...

I've seen Satch four times myself. Twice in California, then at a promo at Guitar Center in Seattle for "Professor Satchafunkilus", and finally in Seoul in 2017 (on my birthday, no less!). It was his first time in Seoul, and apparently I was the only one who registered my attendance at the show on Joe's website, because I won a random draw for two backstage meet & greet tickets. I spent over an hour backstage, spent a half hour with Joe, and he signed one of my pedals. Then, my friend and I were placed right at the front of the stage a minute before the doors opened and got a front seat view of the show.
Quite a birthday present. Joe was cordial, and we talked guitar gear most of the time. I had actually met him once before, in Seattle before he did his performance at GC, but I didn't mention it to him haha
That's where the picture of my avatar came from. When I was walking around and taking pics of all the gear and the stage before the show.

As for me doing another Mann's Cans... not sure. I had a really, REALLY busy year last year. Flew over 80,000 miles, and personal things popped up. I had to cancel my trip to CanJam Shanghai. Then, had to cancel the ZMFestivus in Chicago. I was all pre-booked for CanJam Singapore, but of course THAT got cancelled. I don't see the point in talking headphones all that often. At this point, it feels my reviews would be repetitive: "They sound like [this], and the low, mids, and highs sound like [this]. The end. Oh, they're comfy!"
Additionally, I have acquired the ZMF Aeolus, an Eddie Current ZDT Jr, and the DNA Stratus since my last episode. They're good. That's my review! haha
I did the series basically as a precursor to stuff I'm more interested in doing (a cooking channel/show, interviews with fellow guitar friends about guitar (Mann's Jams), and especially talk about movies and TV shows). However, after I moved out of Seoul, I have no friends here to do shows with. I wanted to streamline video/audio capabilities; learn better lighting; and have a better idea on how to put an episode together. With no one else around, I thought a few episodes of Mann's Cans would be the best approach to something I could do on my own... as a precursor to the other shows. Buuut... I haven't acquired friends down in my current town that want to be filmed and make discussion about guitars, or movies. I thought I would over the last year.

Anyhoo, glad everyone is still around and kickin'.

Well, so far, so good with just the RME DAC and the Monoprice THX HP amp, giving me a clear picture into what cans I really like, and which might have to go bye bye. So clean and transparent in it's sound.
