I used to buy a lot of them. Had to stop because of the cost. Now I just follow a few characters and buy the trade paperbacks.

This. I have a tendency to go overboard, so I have to limit what I buy. Luckily, there's a Hastings right down the street from me and they have Buy 2, Get 1 Free sales on comics almost all the time, so that helps when I'm picking up a few titles at once. But they don't always have the ones I want in stock.

Nice haul I've been trying to avoid X-Men right now till I have a better jumping on point when the new Uncanny X-Men book starts.

I hear ya. I haven't read any X-books in years but decided to read Schism to see if I wanted to jump back into the new stuff. So far it's been pretty good, and not that confusing, considering I haven't kept up with any of the characters.

I don't do the comic books, but I do the trades. I just picked up The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. I & II softcovers from a local shop.

Yeah, I almost bought the standard edition but went ahead and grabbed the variant because it is a much cooler cover.

I've been slacking here mainly because I was forced to cut my comic purchases in half but here is all I have accumulated since my last post:

I just wrote up a review on my blog of the comic TPB that just came out called "The Oz/Wonderland Chronicles".

Excellent series of comics, although not a lengthy series.

Check out the snippet below and a link to read the whole thing.

Would love thoughts from people on the review and also if any of you have read the series.

I think that this is pretty stellar stuff all around. The storyline is excellent, with many twists and turns and genuine surprises throughout, where even when you find out the ultimate revelation in the story, it's still such a surprise as, at least in my case, I hadn't even seen that coming.

Another interesting aspect to this is the subtle little nods to other classic works, particularly with Alice & Dorothy's other female roommates in Chicago. While they didn't really go further than a quick little aside or reference, it appears at least two of her roommates are Wendy from Never Neverland, and Lucy from Narnia.

This story is so chock full with "easter eggs", if you will, for the literary nerds out there, and still is able to appeal to not only those who are very familiar with the original source material, but also those who perhaps only know these works from the Judy Garland version of Oz, and the animated Alice in Wonderland.

I do think, however, that it really works best for those who come in with prior knowledge of the secondary characters from Baum's other Oz books, as I imagine it may seem strange to read a book about a world you think you know, and suddenly there's all these other characters such as the Nome King and Tik Tok from the Royal Army of Oz that you don't recognize.
